I'm probably overlooking something fairly basic, but can someone remind me which setting to play with to arrange the following scenario to play itself out:

1) I have a lead going into the later innings with my slugging catcher starting the game behind the plate
2) My high-PC catcher comes into the game behind the plate and my slugging catcher moves from C to DH while my starting DH goes from in the lineup to riding the bench for the rest of the game.

My gut instinct was to use the Defensive Replacements page with Catcher being listed as 1) Slugger 2) High PC and DH being listed as 1) starting DH 2) Slugging Catcher, but then I remembered there is no DH category on the Defensive Replacements page. The DH category does show up on player rest, but from my understanding that's just a depth chart for who should start when the guy above them gets tired rather than in-game adjustments. Am I wrong about that (in which case using Player Rest would work fine) or am I correct about that and need to do something else? And if I'm right, what is the "something else" that I need to do?
This all works except I don't believe - for the reasons you have figured out - it's possible to switch the DH in-game. Your starting C is going to have to go to the bench.

Thanks...it's currently the playoffs and I want his bat in there the whole time so I'll just stick my starting C in RF and have my high PC guy play the whole game behind the plate. This might be another "quality of life" thing to bring up.

How many points will an 18 year old IFA typically gain in their progression? (Give or take obviously) I'm trying to figure out if Filepe Franco will be a 'serviceable' ML'er or an 'above average' ML'er when he finally gets there.

To me he looks like he will be ok. I never use intl so I cant tell you for sure.

An 18-year-old INTL will typically gain 15-23 points in CON and splits, less in pitches and GB/FB. So unfortunately, the answer is, "somewhere between serviceable and above average."

I'm ok with that answer. As MikeT used to say 'its not like its going to change what I'm going to do with him anyways'.

When I had 2 million in international scouting, played the lotto based off of other owners bidding and not off the ratings and by some miracle won anything more then a AAA guy is just sheer gravy.

Thanks for the response.

I could probably find the answer to this question by doing a bit of digging, but I don't have the time to do that at the moment...I have the #5 pick in a draft where I'm trying to rebuild and the best prospect that I've seen so far is a "may sign if the deal is right" guy. Am I correct in assuming that #5 overall slot money is very likely, if not guaranteed, to qualify as the "right deal" for him? Or should I put my #2 option who is "looking to sign" at the top spot on my board?
1/26/2021 4:44 PM
Nope. "Looking to sign" means your #2 guy will sign for slot money at the first chance. "May sign if the deal is right " means that guy will maybe 5% sign if you offer slot money, will much more likely wait a few days to decide, then there's another 5% chance he'll accept the offer anyway. Most likely he'll come back after a four or five days asking for a "small increase."

If you want to lock in a slot money deal, you want the "looking to sign" guy.

If you have an injured pitcher but didn’t put them on the DL and they say ‘1 day left’ on their injury, can you have them as your next starting pitcher or will the game skip over them?

Skip

Crap. Well that is inconvenient. I have a starter that hit the DL for 8 games, I'm in the thick of getting the first round playoff bye with about 40 games left. If I put him on the 15 day DL that's 3 missed starts where as the 8 might be 1 maybe 2. The problem is I only have 1 LR/MOP guy and my bullpen is short. Having to run a short rotation for that extra game makes it a little tricky.

Rebuilding dilemma. So I have this player who I think will likely type A next season as an FA, the problem is he is willing to resign for 3/8. I like him and think he has considerable value as a guy who can ops around 800 and provide above average baserunning. Am I giving up too much value giving him up for what will probably two picks in the top 50s?

My ideal situation would be to trade him for two or three FAs that are guaranteed to bolt and yield comp picks, is that wishful thinking?

Probably not going to happen. I wouldn’t trade for a position player in his 30’s that wants 8 a year that is mediocre at a lot of things but not great at anything. Wait for him to go FA, you’ll probably get him for 3/5.

If you're in rebuild mode, i think the above strategy is a good one -- let him go and see if you can get him on day 2 or 3 of free agency for cheaper. The problem there is that you are at the mercy of the FA class. If the class is thin, this guy could fetch $10MM a season. Also, to maximize this guy's talent, a high steal manager setting is ideal. If your team won't have the team speed next season to have a high steal manager setting, you might want to let him go anyway. If your team speed will be decent enough to have a high steal manager setting, maybe keep him around. Finally, if you do decide to shop him, I would look at team stats for the season and find the teams that have an obvious focus on stolen bases. Check the farm of those teams and if you see something you like, start there.

With comp picks, timing and luck has a lot to do with the return. I have had a handful of gems with type A comp picks, but I have also had many duds.

I think youre asking the right question though. I would bet this is the exact type of player that most owners struggle with regarding a decision a like this.

Thanks for the insight, incidentally I do have a speed team that he fits great with we stole 403 bases this season, but the problem is that I traded away all my pitchers in hopes of doing a proper rebuild and ended up winning 10 more games than last season :( at one point I'm going to want to dip below .500 and grab a good draft (hopefully top 15).

Follow up questions. If I trade for a player at the end of the season (during playoffs), do I keep his comp pick rights?

You should. Yes.

Its been forever since I've made a Waiver Wire claim. I'm guessing I didn't get the guy (it was revocable waivers to make a trade after the deadline) but I didn't get an email saying that the player was claimed by another franchise. Is there any way to see if this is the case or see which franchise won the claim on the player?
