Nearly positive that if the player is on your roster at roll, you get the rights to the comp pick.

Can confirm - I've traded for players after my seasons is over and gotten the Comp pick.

Thanks for the insight, incidentally I do have a speed team that he fits great with we stole 403 bases this season, but the problem is that I traded away all my pitchers in hopes of doing a proper rebuild and ended up winning 10 more games than last season :( at one point I'm going to want to dip below .500 and grab a good draft (hopefully top 15).

Follow up questions. If I trade for a player at the end of the season (during playoffs), do I keep his comp pick rights?
You should. Yes.

Its been forever since I've made a Waiver Wire claim. I'm guessing I didn't get the guy (it was revocable waivers to make a trade after the deadline) but I didn't get an email saying that the player was claimed by another franchise. Is there any way to see if this is the case or see which franchise won the claim on the player?
I would just go to league transactions and filter for "claimed". You should see if the guy was claimed (usually runs around 3:30am).

Good call. That totally worked and I have completely forgotten about it. Thanks.

If Shawn Shumaker became good enough to be a SS (glove and accuracy bumped up to 85) would you have him on your major league squad?

Its never going to happen. His development has grinded to a halt even with the best fielding instructors in the world, but when I drafted him I figured against left handed pitching he would probably be fun. Maybe 20 homeruns a year, maybe 20-30 bases if he ends up pinch running.

As MikeT used to say I expect my SS to be an automatic out. Anything extra, even if its just a tiny bit of boost, it always a bonus.

I would have him on my ML squad if he picked up 3 more in glove. Still a useful asset. Are there any injuries that give you a glove boost? Maybe a broken thumb or something?

He could play a platoon position or if hitting is legit at other spots possibly cf or 2nd. It really just depends on the league and talent level.

+1 brianp87; he's a really useful bench/platoon player as is.

I usually like my Short Stops to be minimum 85 defense across the board, but when a couple of owners with really impressive W-L records are saying he's useful that makes my decision to bring him to the ML next season a lot easier.

How many AB's should a position player get in a season to make sure they get all of their of their ratings bumps in a season? (or how many games should they get into)

Gerald Crowe would make a great backup 1B and fill in for when my starter needs a rest / power bat off the bench, but I worry that he'd only get 200-300 at bats and that he wouldn't be getting the best ratings bumps.

I don't actually know the answers to your questions, but...
1) Games seem more important than ABs
2) This is an NL team
3) Dude's a pretty solid hitter right now
So maybe set pinch-hitting to high, make him the first PH option in all 6 categories, and see how the chips fall?

So end of season and playoff birth is pretty much wrapped up, two questions

1) I'm resting my position players to well over 100%, question is even after a 100% we still have about 10-12 games left. Is there any advantage outside of them not getting injured to resting them that long In some cases up to 20-25 games of rest at the end of the season. Or is there an advantage to start briging them back spring training style (have them start then pulled to rest at around 4/5th inning).

2) How does this work with pitchers? is there a benefit to have them sit out the last two or three starts of the season?

As far as I know, a player does not get 'rusty' if he rests too long. However, you should consider your seeding spot in the playoffs. If you rest your starters, will you risk a lower seed? Sometimes it doesn't make a difference, but other times it does. If you currently would have a first round bye, by all means do not jeopardize that by resting your players too long.

I often rest players through out the season and at the end to try and keep them from getting hurt and at as close to or at 100%. Only if my record lets me.

I’ve found anecdotally that my pitchers bounce back a little faster (as in a ~100 pitch effort doesn’t seem to effect their % as much as it would if they were going every 4 days) if they skip a turn in the rotation. I imagine there’s probably a limited difference between skipping a turn and a full 20-30 games like you’re talking about though.
