Is "I suck at HBD " a sufficient answer?
3/13/2015 2:56 PM
It is but someone saying "I suck" isn't going to get into my worlds.   We kinda like to be competitive.
3/13/2015 3:53 PM
We've sitemailed about this in the past, have we not? I admitted to my past HBD mistakes and learned the error of my ways of not being able to manage the budget properly. Isn't a bit unfair to put up seasons 5-8 when we're in season 30 now (not that I've improved that much)?

Do we need to air our dirty laundry for the whole world to see?
3/13/2015 9:52 PM
No, we don't NEED to but I thought it was a good idea since tec was yapping about bad divisions.

Mike -

Ok, so if you get a hotshot prospect, you are still probably looking at 3 years in the minors, making sure they have good coaching, and that they play consistently.

What I am still unsure of regarding prospect development is this -

How aggressive can you move these guys up, and can you be too aggressive?

This guy -

Hardball Dynasty – Fantasy Baseball Sim Games - Player Profile: Stuffy Butler is in the majors. 11th overall pick. 1/2 season at rookie, full season at AA. 71 makeup.

By bringing him up to the ML level so soon, are you permanently reducing his ceiling? Or would he simply suffer for another year or 2 but still reach his potential? If he had a makeup of 92 would that make a difference?

Disclaimer: Not taking a shot at the owner here. The owner is new, missed the pre-season, and couldn't field a proper team - so I guess he called him up.

First, you don't have to hold players in the minors for 3-4 seasons.   Second, Stuffy will develop just fine as long as he pitches regularly in the majors.   The "problem", and there wouldn't be one if he was a position player, is that he'll possibly lose control of the player when he still has productive seasons in front of him.  You have 3 min salary, 2 arb and 5 LT.    That makes Stuffy 32 when that time is up.   As a pitcher, he still has a lot of life left in him.   If he were a position player, he'd be ready to begin his decline.

What makes a good reliever?

I thought http://www.whatifsports.com/HBD/Pages/Popups/PlayerProfile.aspx?pid=6054911 would be a great pickup at around a 3-3.5 ERA but he was just terrible and costing me a lot of games that he came into. Is it just more noticeable because it's a smaller sample size or did I miss something?
3/14/2015 2:24 PM
Is Stuffy Butler a lock for the all-name team?
3/14/2015 3:01 PM
After seeing Will Ferrell play every position, and keeping in mind the small sample size we saw, what would you figure his HBD ratings would be?
3/14/2015 4:23 PM
Ok, makes sense.
3/14/2015 5:13 PM
I don't know your world but I wouldn't expect him to be that good.   He's a league average-type.    That said, you have to look at RP differently.   One 3 run homer over 50 innings adds .54 to an ERA.    Look at individual outings.   If he's getting the job done 48 out of 50 appearances, he's doing pretty damn well even if his overall stats say "No, he sucks."

It's pretty funny as HBD names go.

Single digits in everything but make-up.   He gets a low 90 for being able to do it.
