Game 40: The Spectres are no match for Greg Maddux, who throws seven shutout innings and improves to 6-1. St. Louis takes the opener 5-0.
Game 41: Montreal gets nine hits from the first four batters in the order and deals Tom Glavine his first loss of the season, 10-6. Rod Gorman allows only one unearned run in his three innings of work, and Tom Edens gets the win in relief.
Game 42: St. Louis explodes against Jim Gott and Willie Blair, scoring seven runs over the final three innings to blow open a close game. The Blue Storm triumphs, 9-2.
Montreal heads to Frisco to face the 69ers.

Game 43: Montreal keeps pace in the wild card chase, bludgeoning the Niners 12-1 behind a complete game by Scott Erickson (6-1). Ken Griffey Jr. drives home six runs, giving him 45 for the season.
Game 44: Tom Edens blows an 8-5 lead in the eighth inning, but Ken Griffey Jr.'s two-run triple keys a four-run tenth and the Spectres defeat Frisco 12-8.
Game 45: With the bullpen overworked, Bob Wickman is brought into a close game late, and the results are as expected. Frisco scores three times in the eighth and takes a 9-7 win in the finale. Jay Buhner hits his 13th home run.
We return home to face Chicago.

Game 46: Rod Gorman has his best start of the season, four scoreless innings, but the Bootleggers' Bob Tewksbury matches him pitch for pitch and the Chicago bullpen bests Montreal's as the Spectres drop the opener 2-0.
Game 47: Ken Caminiti hits a game-tying three-run homer in the bottom of the ninth, but the Bootleggers score in the 10th without the benefit of a base hit as Steve Finley walks, steals second, advances to third on a groundout, and then scores on a sac fly. Montreal goes 1-2-3 in the ninth and loses 4-3.
Game 48: Scott Erickson runs his record to 7-1 with eight shutout innings as the Spectres salvage the finale, 4-0.
Montreal has interleague matches next with Boston and Washington.

Game 49: Chuck Finley and Jim Gott combine on a two-hit shutout, and Ken Griffey Jr. drives in his 50th run of the season with a home run, as the Spectres defeat the Brawn 4-0.
Game 50: Jay Buhner has three hits, including his 14th home run, and the Spectres sweep Boston with a 9-6 win. Willie Blair throws two scoreless innings in relief of Rod Gorman to pick up the win.
Game 51: Joe Hesketh falls to 0-6, though the offense deserves a fair share of the blame as they generate nothing off John Smoltz in a 5-1 defeat.
Game 52: Alex Fernandez throws eight two-hit innings and Rick Aguilera finishes with a scoreless ninth as the Spectres win 2-0.
Montreal hosts San Diego before facing the division again.

Game 53: Montreal starts fast, taking a 6-0 lead after two innings, but Scott Erickson has a rough time and the bullpen is horrible. San Diego rallies for an 11-9 win, scoring five times over the final three innings. Randy Velarde, Ken Caminiti, and Brady Anderson hit home runs for Montreal.
Game 54: Eddie Taubensee hits his second home run and Chuck Finley improves to 6-3 as the Spectres even the series with San Diego, taking game 2 by a 4-3 score.
Game 55: Things gets a little tense in the ninth, as Rick Aguilera allows a home run, but he gets through the inning with no further damage and the Spectres take the series with a second straight 4-3 decision.
Divisional play returns with a visit from Pittsburgh.

Game 56: Once again, the Spectres bats are silent with Joe Hesketh on the mound. Hesketh falls to 0-7 as the B-Collars run off with a 6-2 win.
Game 57: Alex Fernandez gets shelled, but the Spectres rally off a tired Pittsburgh bullpen, scoring eight runs in the 6th-8th innings to pull off an 11-7 win. Eddie Murray reaches 40 RBI with his 16th double and Ken Caminiti drives home four.
Game 58: Pittsburgh takes the series and drops Montreal a game off the wild card pace as they pound out 13 hits and get another fine performance out of perennial Spectre nemesis Sid Fernandez.
We face Philadelphia next; the Keystones currently lead the wild card race at 33-25.

Game 59: Ken Griffey Jr. drives home three runs with a double and a triple, and the Spectres survive a blown save by prospect Robert Kube when Carl Willis throws a wild pitch with Greg Gagne at third base. Gagne scampers home with the lead run and Rick Aguilera closes out for his 16th save.
Game 60: Montreal hits six doubles and Ken Caminiti drives in five runs as the Spectres win another Rod Gorman start, in fine fashion, 13-5 over Philly. Brady Anderson hits his ninth home run.
Game 61: Philly evens the wild card race with a three-run rally off Rick Aguilera in the bottom of the ninth. It's Aguilera's first blown save of the season and it leaves both teams with a 34-27 record.
Montreal hosts the first place NY Cosmos (41-20) next.

Game 62: New York puts four on the board in the fourth inning and four Cosmo pitchers combine to hold on for a 5-4 win over the Spectres.
Game 63: New York's Tim Belcher allows only four hits and a walk in his seven innings, striking out 10, and runs his record to 9-2 as the Cosmos take their second straight game from Montreal, 4-0.
Game 64: Montreal salvages a game from this series; Chuck Finley throws seven shutout innings and Rick Aguilera recovers from his recent blowup to throw a scoreless ninth for his 17th save in a 2-0 win.
Interleague play returns for a two-game set with Baltimore.

Game 65: Rod Gorman has possibly his worst start of the season, but the Spectres rally with single runs in the eighth and ninth to tie the score. Willie Blair strands two Aureole runners in the ninth, but Montreal cannot score in the top of the 10th despite a leadoff single from Ken Caminiti. Blair gives up a one-out double and a walk in the bottom half. The next batter singles, but the runner on second is thrown out trying to score. Brett Butler, however, ends the game with another single, driving home the winner in a 5-4 decision.
Game 66: Montreal drops three games behind the wild card leader as Bill Gullickson throws a one-hitter at them, finishing a two-game sweep with a 2-0 victory.
Things don't look any better for tomorrow as we have Joe Hesketh ready to start the opener of a three-game set in Atlanta.

Game 67: It's a miracle! Montreal clubs three home runs and Joe Hesketh throws six competent innings as the Spectres defeat Atlanta 8-2, giving Hesketh his first win of the season after eight consecutive losses.
Game 68: Scott Erickson throws seven shutout innings and gets three-run homers from Jay Buhner and Ron Karkovice as the Spectres roll Atlanta, 13-3.
Game 69: Atlanta rocks Chuck Finley for 10 runs and salvages the finale of the series, holding off the Spectres for a 12-9 win.
We host Houston next.

Game 70: Kevin Appier improves to 12-2 with seven brilliant innings against the Spectres. Kevin Reimer and Billy Hatcher hit home runs for the Lone Stars, who take a 5-1 win in the opener.
Game 71: Scott Sanderson dominates the Spectre lineup and Houston's Felix Jose has four RBI as the Lone Stars win 7-2.
Game 72: What a roller coaster! Ken Caminiti blasts a two-run homer in the eighth to give Montreal a 3-1 lead, but Tony Phillips' two-out error in the ninth leads to two unearned runs off Rick Aguilera to tie the score. Montreal strands two in the bottom of the ninth, and Houston strands two in the top of the tenth against Steve Olin. Montreal strings three singles together in the bottom of the 10th off Mark Eichhorn and wins it, 4-3. Jay Buhner's single drives home Eddie Murray with the winner.
We head to Cincinnati to face the Stingers.

Game 73: Montreal scratches together runs in the eighth and ninth to tie the score at three. Steve Olin throws a scoreless ninth to send the game to extras, where Eddie Murray hits a three-run homer in the 10th. Rick Aguilera throws a shutout frame and the Spectres win 6-3.
Game 74: Eddie Murray, Ken Griffey Jr., and Jay Buhner all hit home runs as the Spectres win a rare blowout, 13-5. Chuck Finley picks up his eighth win of the season.
Game 75: Montreal sweeps Cincinnati with an 11-9 win, rallying for five runs in the ninth after Dave Burba and Jim Gott combine to allow six in the seventh. Anthony Schellner's sacrifice fly finishes the scoring; Greg Gagne drives home three runs.
We return home to face Los Angeles.

Game 76: Rick Aguilera suffers another blown save, his third, but Tony Phillips bails him out with an RBI single in the bottom of the ninth to win it, 4-3. Jay Buhner had hit a three-run homer in the sixth to give Montreal the lead.
Game 77: Jay Buhner hits two more homers, giving him 21, and drives in five to back Joe Hesketh, who wins his second game in a 13-5 blowout. Ken Griffey Jr. and Randy Velarde also go yard.
Game 78: Randy Velarde hits a pinch hit single in the bottom of the ninth to drive home Ken Caminiti with the deciding run in a 3-2 win over the Looters. Tom Edens improves to 6-1 as he vultures another win.
Montreal finishes the first half at St. Louis.
