Diagnostics for Leadoff Hitters II Topic

Look it's after 5:30. I have to get away from the office.
Mike, feel free to answer my question:
Is your argument that teams who strikeout less score more runs?

If putting the ball in play is better... what's it better for?
If it's not better for scoring runs, then why do we care?
If it IS better for scoring runs, wouldn't that be be supported by the numbers? Wouldn't that show up in a correlation between Ks and Runs Scored? Yes, of course it would.
But it doesn't show up. Why?

14 K+ in a game run average vs 13 or less K in a game run average

bosux, since your buddy nuke seems to be shying away, I'll happily accept your money. But, if nuke wants in, I'll take both sets of money. Cha-ching!!!

bosux?

That's too much shorthand for me... what are you talking about exactly?
2/20/2008 8:07 PM
I'm saying if a team strikes out 14 times in a game that they will score less than the league average. I picked 14 because it's more than 50% of the outs made.
Are you willing to accept this bet?

Some reason you're not willing to just bet that there's NO correlation WHATSOEVER between Ks in a game and Runs Scored?
Why stick to half the outs, when you could have them all?

I cannot believe that 'tardcomm is making sense... the world is changing.

You can't prove this. And an article or two on the web is not proof.

Yes or no? This should provide plenty of correlation. Strike out a lot, don't score much.

I'm not sure... it would show the guys putting the ball in play aren't doing so hot, either.
Not many people do, facing a hot pitcher.
You really thing that proves something?
And if you do, you comfrotable with what that says about your brain power? You know there's more to serious statistics work than this, right?

I am assuming that is a "no".
Run along. If half your outs are whiffs, you won't score much. If half your outs are balls in play, you'll score more. I think your reluctance to put any money where your yapper is pretty much proves my point. Thanks for playing. See ya' next time.

Do you, miket, think that putting the ball in play for outs (as opposed to striking out) leads to more runs?
Why do you suppose that doesn't show up at all in the data?

Go with what Todd says, he is Asian.
