Skip to the final paragraph for the short version.
For the past four weeks, I have been trying to get a clarification from dureseam on what determines draft eligibility or ineligibility. I sent him five sitemails with questions on qualification criteria, what happens if a player qualifies equally for two positions, whether we will be picking exclusively from a list, hypothetical examples, etc. I never received a single return sitemail from dureseam. (Has anyone ever received an individual sitemail from dureseam?) He did not address any of my questions in either forum. I think it is important for everyone to understand clearly how things are going to be done before the draft. (If Tovar plays 20 games at 1B, 40 games at 3B, 30 games at 2B, 30 games at SS, and 35 games in the OF, is he a MIF, or CIF, or both? Does he qualify at OF? Who decides? Will this be on a list?) Does a player have to be on a draft list to be eligible for the draft?
From the above posts, it is clear that people are still interpreting the information that dureseam provided in different ways. My pick of Delahanty was my last attempt to get some clarification, as none of the information in the forums stated definitively that Delahanty was an illegal pick.
An hour before picking Delahanty, I sitemailed dureseam asking if Delahanty was a legal pick. I also asked if he was updating lists by putting picked players in bold, deleting them, or leaving them on the list. (If it takes a day to rule on an illegal player, how long does it take to change the lists?)
When I made the Delahanty pick, I was hoping to get some clarification (finally) about draft eligibility so that everyone would be clear about who could or couldn't be drafted. Even though there is nothing clearly written (depending upon interpretation) that makes Delahanty an illegal pick, I was expecting to receive a ruling that Delahanty was not legal, the reason why, and having Sutton added to my roster in his place.
I was surprised at dureseam's post that Delahanty was legal, but more surprised that dureseam made no posts in response to other owners' postings for twenty hours.
I am not trying in any way to justify my actions. I am just trying to explain them to people who have been in other leagues with me who might have been wondering what was going on.
I am encouraged with dureseam's efforts to remedy the situation in a way that will cause the least disruption by replacing Delahanty with Collins. If no one objects, I'll go along with that. If anyone objects, I'll go with a better solution.
