Ennis Whatley (born August 11, 1962 in Birmingham, Alabama). He attended Phillips High School in Birmingham, Alabama. He followed that with two seasons at the University of Alabama before declaring for the NBA Draft in 1983. While at Alabama, Whatley became a starter instantly as a freshman. He led the Crimson Tide to the SEC Tournament Championship in his freshman year in 1982 and a Sweet 16 appearance in the 1982 NCAA Tournament, where they lost to eventual champion North Carolina. In his sophomore season, Whatley led the Tide to nationally-televised regular season victories over national powers Georgetown, Kentucky, and UCLA, and another NCAA appearance.
