Service time question/thought Topic

The days are not carrying over - they basically didn't fix anything.  I had a guy at 0.247 at the end of last year and he started this year at 1.000, just like it used to be.  Nothing has changed.

Well then I feel screwed because it did carry mine over.

And looking at Happy Jack, which just went into retirements:

is listed at 2.004.

Ah, it turns out that the fix went into effect late.  This is from the last sitestaff post:

**UPDATE** It turns out this change did not properly go into effect when noted. There was a change that did not carry to our production environment completely. It is now in effect.  Thank you utahjazz88  for pointing this out.

Gaining those extra 4 days each season seems pretty stupid to me.  That's not how it works in real life.  If you have a guy at 2.169 years, then after his next season he will actually go to 4.001 years, completely skipping a year of eligibility.  In fact, if you leave a guy down for 23 ML days (21 days in the minors) in his first season, he will be at 0.153 days after his first season, then 1.157, 2.161, 3.165, 4.169, and then he will jump to 6.001 and become a free agent, yes?

That is what I'm thinking. You'll just have to leave a guy down a little longer.

As speculated earlier, you can't have more than 255 days of service time past any particular season.  the following season, 255 days turns into 1 year, 083 days of service time (255-172 = 83)

So hold a guy back 20 days, then up for the rest of his career and he'll be at
1.083 (he'll end the season at 1.255)
2.083
3.083
4.083
5.083
6.083
etc...

That's good to know.

Actually, it will be 1.083, 2.087, 3.091, etc. since they gain 4 extra days per year.

Does anyone have a definitive answer as to the number of days to keep a player at AAA before promoting him to ML? I don't plan on demoting them. I would just like to get an extra year before arbitration kicks in. Thanks!

actually it won't be since the highest they'll go is 255.  1.083 + 176 days = 1.255 (actually 1.259) so when the 172 days are whacked off to start the next year you'll be at 2.083.  Not that it matters a whole lot either way.
