we had someone on the wait list, have they already been contacted?

Yes.  I sent a sitemail this afternoon which hasn't been opened yet.

So . . . as of midnight tonight, we're on hold until at least Sunday at 9 am, the earliest the Mets could possibly go up, right?

And, gumby, ct is right on.  This league is the best thing going in the sim right now --- in large measure, thanks to your efforts.

Thanks.  Although it'd be hard to do it without the diligence of all the owners here.

No, the plan is to re-open bidding on units that are currently open at midnight on Sunday.  That way it will be easier to determine what time existing units officially are sold.  For instance, a unit that was bid on today at 4:23 P.M. would be sold at exactly 4:23 P.M. on the day we start back up again.

I am going to allow the new owner to make bids on open units during the down time.  Those bids would become official at midnight on the day we start up again, and the 24 hour rule would continue from there, so the other 23 owners would have an opportunity to outbid the new guy.

any reason the individual player draft, that occurs after the player unit draft, is not longer than 2 rounds?

i reckon some squads might still need players, and i reckon there will still be some very helpful players.

Possibly.  CT's ruling on that can be found via the link below and I'm going to stick with this:

I don't think we need to do any more than we already have to help out owners who can't get close to the necessary innings/at bats for the first year. it's a calculated risk to take the units who are crappy now with future potential, I don't think we should provide tons of opportunities to add extra players for free. especially not after the draft is already going.

I don't think we are.  I don't see a team that's going to need 6, 8, 10 players when the draft is done.  If you're in the supplemental draft, you're taking from the worst 6 units in any given position group.  If you need anything past that, you're taking from the worst 6 units minus the top few out of each group.  So essentially you're just scraping the bottom of the barrel.  Remember that income is based on the performance of your team, so I don't think relying on the supplemental draft is a viable way of building a team.

"I want to discuss an idea that I came up with.  I know that changing the rules midway through the start of a progressive is usually a big no-no, but I don't see how this affects anyone negatively.  My idea involves the way the Rookie Auctions will work.  I think the Unit Auctions are one of the things that makes this league original and presents a new type of challenge.  I'd like to keep the spirit of the Unit Auctions intact as we go forward.

As of right now, all Rookies are slated to be auctioned off individually, followed by an open auction on all remaining players (non-keepers, players on IR for 2000, and undrafted players).  I want to change it to the following:

Following the completion of the 2000 season, owners will post their keeper lists the same way (no max, 1 Million per keeper for the first 20, 3 Million for every additional keeper)

After that, ALL remaining players in the 2001 WIS database (incoming rookies, non-keepers, un-drafted players from 2000, and un-drafted players who were on IR) will be divided into 60 Player Units depending on their real life 2001 MLB team,  Each MLB team would have a Hitters Unit and a Pitchers Unit that would be available for bidding.  Still sorting out the details in my head, but what do you guys think?"

First off I would like to thank everyone involved with running the league.  It has been smoother then I could ever imagine.  I would like to explain why I would vote against this rule change and explain my reasoning.  I don't want to offend anyone, so I will try to explain my thoughts as clearly as possible.  So if it becomes a little longer and rambling, I apologize.

I am a huge baseball fan, strategy fan and also pretty competitive.  I am assuming most people on the site are as well.  It is what draws us to the site.  As in most aspects of life, I try to do my best.  When I saw the league add, I thought it was great and was excited to join.  And of course I wanted to do my best.  With that in mind, I came up with a strategy for the auction.  It was based off of the current rules.  This strategy was the one I thought would be best.

While I don't think the new rule is better or worse then the current one, I just wish I would have known about it before hand.  With this new rule, I believe my previous strategy is no longer optimal.  I would be disappointed going forward knowing that I am already stuck in my strategy.  I want to be as competitive as possible, and this new rule would not allow me to do so in my opinion.

just my thoughts,

profcake

Don't see why anyone would be offended because of a relevant, well-thought out argument.

eh - it's a way to add players for free, and I don't think that should be extended any further than it already has. I can say for sure that knowing we could add as many players as we want after the draft would have changed my draft strategy to this point.

maybe no one will "need" 6 players, but i'll sure as heck take them if I'm allowed. Why not add players for free if you can - the worst that can happen is you have to cut most of them after the season.

Our waitlist candidate has declined.  So the spot is open.

The clocks are now officially stopped.  I've noted this in both bid threads in case there are some owners who haven't been following this thread today at all.

tarheel, you can only do it up until 25.  It's not unlimited.  And by saving the spots for "free" players, you're forgoing bidding on better players, who theoretically should be able to make up the monetary difference in a short amount of time.

This question was asked and answered by ct before we began, so the "if I had known" argument isn't going to get very far.

In the rules, there is nothing that says you can't go over 25 players in the two-round draft after the auction. In fact according to the rules we can even go over the 33 players limit (25 active, 6/2 in AAA) with remaining players being placed on IR for the season. So if we extend the draft which already lets people pick when over 25 players, people will be able to pick as many as they want.
