Total side issue in case I missed it. I noticed in one of the leagues I am in that no one is running away with any division. Total parity. The spread between the best record and the last is like 14 games. 56-42 from most ot fewest Wins. I assume there are a couple of leagues with runaway leaders meaning the rest of the league in general is worse. Would be interesting to see a count of how many teams from each league are currently above the cut line.

Good news: My 31 teams were a combined +31 in run differential in this morning's run
Bad new: My teams went 11-20 (2-9 in one-run games, 1-7 in two-run games)
Good news: Somehow, out of those 16 close losses, I only blew one 9th inning lead.

In League 2, I decided to use an unconventional 2-man tandem rotation for my 1899-1924 Reds. Tandem 1 is '04 Noodles Hahn and '15 Fred Toney and Tandem 2 is '24 Eppa Rixey and '23 Dolf Luque. This is working quite well as the Reds are playing just under .600 baseball with 58 wins through 97 games. The interesting part is that Dolf Luque is 30-1!! in 48 games pitched with 0 games started. He is on pace for 50 wins. You won't find him in the top 25 for OAV, OBP, SLG, or WHIP, and he squeezes in at 22 in ERA. So he isn't pitching lights out or anything, just right place right time. He is also the Cy Young favourite right now as no one comes within 10 wins of him. The pitcher that does come the closest in wins is Fred Toney, who is 20-6 and 2nd in Cy Young voting, The Sim BBWAA loves their wins in Cy Young voting. Also funny to note that poor Eppa Rixey, who has started every single one of Luque's starts, is 0-10. We will see if this Luque luck continues

Regarding Luque's 0-10 start... It's kind of hard to win when you don't pitch 5 innings. It's lose or no decision every time. This tandem strategy has been a very popular with the right pitchers. I've seen '95 Maddux win 50+ games as a "Tandem B" pitcher.

Although I am not using this strategy with my 1922-39 Reds team, I am also very pleased with how the starting pitching (Luque x2, Rixey, Lucas) has held up, especially in a high-octane hitting league.

I'm reasonably sure I have never seen a pitcher with a 30-1 record in a juice league, and I have been in a lot of them.

Fun fact...

I have 31 teams.

My best 16 teams have an average winning% of .610 and have an average draft pick position of 8.7
My worst 15 teams have an average winning% of .499 and have an average draft pick position of 5.6

Of my 15 worst teams, 10 of them were drafted 1st, 2nd or 3rd overall in that league.

My winning% by league
A.L. 0.567
N.L. 0.552
Pick#1 0.543

Moral of story:
Don't be so anxious to select teams when the theme is initially posted. Maybe spend some time to do a little research.

FYI - Here are my worst 8 teams (thru 130 games). The 1894-99 Orioles were the #1 overall pick in this entire tournament and may not advance to round 2. Nice job by me...

The descent of my Pirates team in League 2 has been quite amazing to behold.
14 1903-08 Pittsburgh Pirates (Wagner) 2 redcped 22 8 2 0.755
12 1903-08 Pittsburgh Pirates (Wagner) 2 redcped 22 23-9 0.622 0.733
28 1903-08 Pittsburgh Pirates (Wagner) 2 redcped 22 30-16 0.597 0.615
29 1903-08 Pittsburgh Pirates (Wagner) 2 redcped 22 39-23 0.573 0.594
117 1903-08 Pittsburgh Pirates (Wagner) 2 redcped 22 45-35 0.534 0.537
205 1903-08 Pittsburgh Pirates (Wagner) 2 redcped 22 53-47 0.502 0.520
152 1903-08 Pittsburgh Pirates (Wagner) 2 redcped 22 65-54 0.522 0.541

They've lost 12 of their past 13 and are now 66-65, 5 games out of 3rd place and on a trajectory to fall right out of Round 2 even. Actually still a little bit lucky, sporting a .489 Exp%.

Fun game. Match the Indians pitcher with his sim W-L record and his sim ERA. All four pitchers have only started, and all four have between 34 and 36 starts.

I have only two teams and they have been "bubble" to say the least all year. Both are on L3s right now so may have actually dropped out. WTF. I need at least ONE to make it. Every game counts.
12/27/2022 11:23 AM
With 6 games to go, only 7 of my 10 teams are assured of advancing. This despite the worst of them having a .499 EXP%.
12/31/2022 6:24 PM
I have 16 teams. Here are my playoff situations:

- 5 are in the playoffs (4 as division winner)
- 6 of my teams won't make it
- the other 5 are all pending, but 4 of them are in the exact same situation: up 1 game, NOT playing the team behind us--that means need just one of 3 games to go our way (win our own, have other team lose theirs, or win the tiebreaker game). assuming 50/50, that's 12.5% to miss out for each team. The 5th team is in a really tough spot--down a game to the division leader but tied with 2nd place, we play 4th place team, so need to win, have 1st place team lose, then win the 3-team tiebreaker

As for advancement:

- 13 teams in with 78+ wins
- 1 team at 77 wins but with BAD xWin%
- 1 team at 76 wins but with GREAT xWin%
- 1 team out at 73 wins

Gonna be a fun final round of games!
