Badgers vs Trojans in Holiday Bowl... who you got?

No way can the fat, Midwesterner white boy schlubs compete with the mighty USC Gamecocks, errr, Trojans.

I thought made a colossal screw up signing Junior Simpson. Paid WAY too much money for his history of production. At the halfway point he was pretty much at his career averages. A few other experienced owners pointed out that he probably would never produce like an elite player.

Then after the AS break, I moved him to 3rd base and he tore it up with a 1+ OPS and averaged an RBI a game. ended with career numbers in almost every category. Carried the offense at times almost singlehandedly. Any insight on this? Could the move to third base (or something else) have sparked this? Or did I just get lucky with the sim?

I don't know his current ballpark ratings but SD is tough on hitters.   He's not that far off of S34 numbers, in SD, so I think it's possible he could get a .830 OPS if JAC is better than neutral.    The move to 3B had nothing to do with it.

I've been using your "The Rightfielder" philosophy with Pedro Villalona. How would you say this guy has done so far? The 10 negative plays in 678 innings seems scary.

As you know, I developed the whole theory for https://www.whatifsports.com/HBD/Pages/Popups/PlayerStats.aspx?pid=4757237.   And he had some brutal seasons in the field.   But you want that bat playing.   As long as he's got an .890 OPS and you don't have a .750 OPS RF sitting on the bench, play him.

Who's winning the Semi finals in the college football playoff? Any stopping Bama at this point?

Also how thin is Charlie Strong's ice and what will it take for him to survive next season?
12/13/2015 6:45 PM
I got Oklahoma and Bama in the NC.    OK in a close one, Bama in a blowout.    I'll need to see how the players respond to all the off time before picking the champ but, if I had to lay down cash today, it's Bama.

Very thin.  I don't think 6-6 or 7-5 will cut it.   8-4 with at least a victory and a couple of close games against OK, OK State, Baylor, TCU.   Getting shitkicked twice in those 4 would be painful.  Beating OK would go a long way.    All that said, he gets a job within a week if Texas lets him go.   I don't think he was ready for a Texas-size job but he'd have been a great hire for SC(coordinator there back in the day) or a similar job.

Back to the DH in RF theory...   Player Profile: Eugenio Lee - Hardball Dynasty Baseball | WhatIfSports  12 neg's .  Im just gonna leave that right there..  WTF?

If you're uncomfortable with it, no, I wouldn't.     Anyway, you didn't really pay attention in C in RF class.    That guy should be in LF.   You want a stronger arm in RF.   The 12-23-74-73-30 types.

You had mentioned not to fear starters with control in the 50's if their other ratings make up for it. So I went ahead with a few of those pitchers and what you said is true - they performed. One thing I have noticed though is they have inflated pitch counts. Understandable. So I'm trying to figure out what pitch counts these guys are probably good for.

This is one of them  - https://www.whatifsports.com/HBD/Pages/Popups/PlayerRatings.aspx?pid=4310364

Any thoughts to how much stamina a 50s/60's control guy needs to be a useful starter? How would that compare to a guy with similar numbers with control in the 70's or above?

12/16/2015 2:11 PM
I'll explain it another way because, if a guy can throw 45 pitches as a SP, I consider him useful(assuming his production warrants starting).    My Coop staff is pretty good.   ERA between 2.28 and 3.36.   4 have control between 80-96 and the 5th is 57.    The higher control guys need 14.3-15.3 pitches to complete an inning.  Mr.57 needs 16.   So, if you're a "My starters have to go 5" guy, Mr.57 would have to be able to throw 80 pitches effectively while Mr.14.3 only needs to throw 72 to reach 5.   To throw 80 effective pitches every 5th day, I'd say you probably need 25/70 DUR/STM.   But I don't run my staff(s) like that so I'm not 100% positive.

Mike. In one of my worlds the AAA season is coming to an end. I'm thinking of bringing up my top SP prospect for a few games. I'd like the guy to have another season in AAA after this one. But does bringing him up for those 3 starts or so start his ML clock? Therefore losing a year of it.
12/16/2015 5:25 PM
It starts his service time clock.   You don't lose a year, you lose 20ish games.   I don't know how many because I don't play the game that way but, if you intended to hold him back 20 games 3 seasons from now, you have to hold him back 50ish.
