Gay marriage affects no one but the gay couple getting married.

Not interested in studies that have no basis for their reasoning.

Jim is due to receive $200 month from SS based upon what he earned in his lifetime.
Joe, married to Jim, never worked.     How much does Single Joe get?   How much does Jim's spouse get?

Repeating "Gay marriage affects no one but the gay couple getting married" doesn't make it true.

Jim has fine health benefits thru his company.
Joe, married to Jim, doesn't have a job.

Where does Single Joe get his healthcare?    Where does Jim's spouse get healthcare?

Repeating "Gay marriage affects no one but the gay couple getting married" doesn't make it true.

I think I disagree with your premise.  A couple qualifying for legal benefits because of a legal marriage is not a harm.

Arguing that we shouldn't allow gay couples to marry to avoid some possible extended social security benefit isn't an argument against gay marriage, but against marriage in general.

Single Joe buys a policy if he wants one.

Married Joe pays for it with his husband.  Either through an individual policy or through a work benefit.

This sentence is by far my favorite of all the nonsensical bullshit you've posted on this thread:
"Not interested in studies that have no basis for their reasoning."

From the guy with no evidence to back anything up at all.

Man malcolm X, you are one thick headed leftist marxist that is completly without memory recall and who can only recite a question as an answer or when that doesn't work, the same tired answer a hundred times.  I want to thank you for making me leave this thread as it has been reduced to the same argument I hear three year olds have.    Have a nice day, you win.

This is my favorite nonsensical bullshit sentence:  "Gay marriage affects no one but the gay couple getting married"

No evidence to back it up but repeated over and over again.   Nice.

You can't prove a negative.  If your contention is that there is a harm, please provide it.

OK, I run a business.  I currently subsidize benefits for spouses.  SSM means I have to:

1. Pay more money for covering Bruce and his new husband Jrd.  Before, when they couldnt' get married, I could legally deny.
2. Jack up the prices for the previously covered spouses to help pay the extra money for Jrd.
3. Cut back on the benefits for the previously covered spouses to make up for the extra costs of Jrd.
4. Go out of business because I have a bunch of gay employees who run out and get married, thus doubling my insurance costs.

Or you could just stop subsidizing spousal benefits. Doesn't really have anything to do with gay marriage. The same thing could happen if you employed straight people who got married and took advantage of the benefit you offered.

Then it harms the people who were getting spousal benefits.  You asked "who gets harmed because of SSM", I answered.

Just because you don't like (or possibly understand) a detailed response, doesn't mean the response isn't valid or accurate.

I like how jrd is now telling you how to run your business.

You're complaining about a benefit you choose to offer costing you money. It's only a problem if you allow it to be. And it's not even specific to gay marriage. You have the same problem with straight marriage.

You can do math, right?

I have 20 employees.   15 are straight, 5 are gay(because I'm EOE).   Despite being EOE, I'm also aware of my responsibility for benefits for spouses and dependents.    Because I know that I have to maintain a certain level of expenses, it's entirely possible, despite being EOE, I hired 5 single men and 5 lesbians in addition to my 10 married employees.    I did this because 1) single men don't get pregnant 2) lesbian women don't get married.    And, no, when I hired these 10 people, I did not ask their marital status or sexual preference.    But I did interview them and make some assumptions.

Now, if SSM is legalized, I've got 5 additional people to subsidize with my company offered insurance.

I have several options to keep my bottom line the same.    One of them is opposing SSM.

Get it?
