I think I messed up Topic

First season at D1. First time willingly engaging in big battles for really good recruits. Made some dumb mistakes. Might lose all three battles.

Hold me.

If I lose, not so much fun. But I definitely learned some important lessons. I won't be making those same mistakes again.

Sort of being facetious, but yes, learning is a big key to D1.

If you have any questions, there are several guys that would be more than willing to answer any questions. Feel free to PM if needed.

Share what you learned. I'd love to hear

They were really basic things. I spread myself too thin. I undervalued the importance of prestige. (Mine is a D-, and only because there's not F). I undervalued the importance of preferences. When you're not in a battle, preferences don't mean a thing. Honestly, as long as you put enough AP on a guy, you will eventually unlock everything. But when you're battling two other coaches who have teams with higher prestige and who better match the recruit's preferences, it's a recipe for disaster.

Basically, after the first two cycles, I found a three-star recruit and a five-star recruits without anyone on them. Being at Navy, I knew these would be two program changers, and I hoped if I could jump on them in the next cycle, it might scare people away. I also learned good coaches at D1 tend to not get scared when D- Navy is trying to flex.

I found myself in battles with a huge disadvantage in prestige and a slight disadvantage in preferences.

Edit: And then I kept spending money when I probably should have conceded.

I am one of the coaches contending with you, and yes while I have a higher prestige...its not by much (D to D-), in fact even the other school is only a D+. I think its a bit premature to think you've lost already. All 3 of us will have a shot on the dice roll.

Maybe I'm just preparing myself, just in case. haha. Good luck, crab.

lmao, I did as well except for the start...maybe thats why you are listed as VH

Should have promised that son - LOL.

I think the key is not getting in prolonged battles before signing. You can always wait until right around signings to make a firm decision about who to go all out for. There's no real advantage to putting a lot into a player early on, unless you want to scare others off, but that does not always work. You want to be in a position where you can at least go all in on one of the guys, if not two of them. It's possible to go all in on two guys with two openings if you don't spend anything on anyone else and they are close. I did this with two 5-star guys at LSU. One was 45 miles away, and one was like 240 I think. Was able to win both. Used AP almost exclusively on both. And I made sure they matched preferences well.
