1. How do walk-ons happen? I come from Gridiron Dynasty where the Assistant Coach signs players to any scholarship I don't use. At D3 this was clearly the case. But at D2 I have somebody who was classified as a walk-on, and he's already leaving, thank goodness! Is that a timing thing?

2. I also have players who say they'd like to transfer to my school. There are other recruits I'd rather take. How do I tell them no? Can I just ignore them? Do I have to work at recruiting them, or are they automatically coming to me? Do they have to sit out a year if I end up taking them?

walkons happen and stay for just one season

ignore transfers you dont like - and you should generally not like them

Keep in mind, you don't have any idea about what a transfer looks like from the initial f ratings he starts with when he contacts you. You haven't actually scouted him yet, he could be usable.

Even saying this... the odds they are even halfway decent is unlikely at best.

I have a big pile of scouting money so I might as well check him out. Thanks !

Ugh. Thanks anyway!

In the second recruiting period there will be a number of transfers who didn't contact you appearing on the list of recruits. They will be clustered at the bottom of the list because they start out with all F's. But those F's are just space fillers -- their real attributes could make them very useful. Scout them.

I wouldn't say scout them all, typically if you're interested I tend to look at the players that were above that kid on the schools roster he left. If they aren't players I'd recruit I'd pass over said transfer as well. Fool proof? No but it's a good indicator.

I agree, I don't say scout them ALL, either. Scout the positions you need. Fill in holes in your class from recruiting period 1. Stuff like that. Scout them according to your needs. The point is, there can be some useful guys there, and don't believe all those F's.

I can't speak as much on transfers under 3.0, but in roughly 9 actual years of playing this game, I've signed 1 or 2 transfers. They tend to be garbage. I'd be surprised if you could not find a better option.

Is the recruiting value of AP tied to your prestige, or is it standard for everyone? Does anyone have any ideas how much AP would equal one HV?

In the previous version, a guy who is cut or transfers from a big 6 program often wasn't even visible to D3 and many D2 teams. Now that they are recruitable to all, more coaches may be able to find some useful players. Especially juniors and seniors, they can bolster your bench and turn over their scholarship in a year or two, which can make them more attractive to some high level D2/3 coaches than a 4 year player.

"Is the recruiting value of AP tied to your prestige...?" Yes.

"Does anyone have any ideas how much AP would equal one HV?" No. There is a lot of discussion but it is all over the map. Some people want AP's devalued, some want them valued more highly. We are all still learning, so take any "definitive" answers with a grain of salt.
