I cut all the way down to one team, but just added a 2nd team - sort of on a whim - want to see what Hawaii is like in 3.0 - Rainbow Warriors in Crum!

Would love to hear a pre/post 3.0 comparison from folks who have held the job at the Hawai'i/Alaska/Puerto Rico schools and hear how things did/didn't change there.

Are you trying division 3?

nope, DI Hawaii - been too long since I was at D3 to even have a good instinct about whats a good player

I would recommend trying all levels to get a good aspect of what its like. I have a division 3 team in one world and division 2 team in another world. I would also recommend what Spud the only advice I will ever take from him. That chose another team in another world.

I eventually ended up taking a 2nd team for the purpose of getting used to recruiting in 3.0. However, for me, I feel in order to maximize my success, you really need to put extra time and effort into one team to make it work. I could never put any serious effort into more than 1 team.

I was at Hawaii, I left it to go to my alma mater, but I think it was better. It was made immediately easier by being able to recruit the top players that showed up at the island. It also made it easier to recruit over long distances which obviously helps Hawaii. I could actually battle for players on the mainland

Good Luck in Hawaii. It costs a lot to scout internationals, but I don't know how many people are doing it, so the competition for players may not be as high with them.

Also, I would love to know who (and how many) show up at your private school camp.

Hughes ., do internationals first. Only few internationals, then assistant scout with the new players box unchecked. Still expensive at d3, but not prohibitive at d2 with a few openings.

does it make any sense to do a private camp at Hawaii? will all the guys I discover be mainland kids for whom I have no shot?

Hey guys,
I'm at Hawaii Pacific in Smith World. The private camp will get you only kids from Hawaii. In my case, all 16 D-2 Hawaii kids showed up. It was helpful, as all 16 were scouted to Level 2 immediately. I then have a lot of scouting money to go into California.

As far as recruiting, only 2 humans own Hawaii-based teams... me at HPU and kybucki (and formerly tjsschulze) at Chaminade. The D-1 Rainbow Warriors are Sim owned, along with BYU Hawaii and Hawaii Hilo. So in Smith World, that is a huge advantage for me and Chaminade.

So far, I've seen no real competition from mainland teams... there might have been a Top-25 D-1 player that was grabbed by a Big Six team, but other than that we're kind of on our own over here on Oahu. Talent is kinda thin, only 4 of my players are from Hawaii (though these 4 were part of my previous 2 recruiting classes).

Internationals I've found to be expensive, even relatively close by over in the Far East. I've actually gotten a handful of players from PA and New England. I tend to scout Hawaii, California, and a random state here and there. Overall it's been a good experience, and I've got a nice RPI #8 team so far this year.
