news today....2 russian spies caught and charged with stealing 500 million yahoo accounts...will be interesting to see what trump admin. response will be.
probably blame it on yahoo.

just one more thing......why hasnt trump simply asked the fbi..justice etc if trump tower was tapped or surveilled........if he had nothing to fear wouldnt he have ended this farce by doing so....look at the days and hrs going on because congress took him seriously.........it is crazy...he has made our country crazy.

Perhaps he has. He has said that evidence is coming. Maybe there is something to it. It is quite an accusation to make of a former President.

As Spicer said, there are many types of data that can be detected. And if they didn't seek a warrant, perhaps their surveillance wasn't legal. He will have to make his case...

Yeah, he also said he had evidence Obama was born in Kenya. And that 3-5 million voted illegally for Hillary, that he had the biggest electoral college victory since Reagan (!), that it didn't rain on Inauguration Day (!!), that his Inauguration crowd was bigger than Obama's, and that Celebrity Apprentice was the #1 one show on TV when the Nielsen ratings said it was #67. Maybe there's something to those things, too. We shall see.

Who to believe?

"Based on the information available to us, we see no indications that Trump Tower was the subject of surveillance by any element of the United States government either before or after Election Day 2016," Republican Chairman Richard Burr and Senator Mark Warner, the committee's Democratic vice chairman, said in a statement.

The top Republican in Congress, House of Representatives Speaker Paul Ryan, on Thursday added his voice to those saying there was no sign of a wiretap.

But White House spokesman Sean Spicer forcefully defended Trump's assertion during a briefing, citing media reports that have discussed intelligence collection on possible contacts between Trump associates and Russia in the campaign.

"There is no question that there were surveillance techniques used throughout this," Spicer said.

There is extensive data mining done by the NSA. Perhaps other agencies do similar collections. Much of this isn't reportedly publicly because we don't have a need to know. Information of a sensitive nature is made public only after it becomes declassified. We put a lot of faith in our intelligence community, as well as those who pull their strings, and of their oversight.

How can we possibly know that all of those folks have the public's interest at heart? We suffer if they fail to remain impartial.

I am as curious as anyone to see if/what evidence Trump makes public...

Now my very liberal Aunt is screaming about Trump's budget, trimming funds to Corporation for Public Broadcasting(Big Bird's PBS), and the National Endowment for the Arts.

CPB makes tons of money. They can function on their own, without Federal tax dollars. They get donations, endowments, and can advertise for additional funding. These programs can and should be funded privately, and also by corporations. Perhaps the liberals can write a check from their own accounts, rather than spend the public's money for a change...this country is and has always been very generous. That should continue, but by individual choice, not mandate by those who think they know what's best for us...a big reason why Trump won over many voters. Many are sick and tired of Washington constantly reaching into our pockets. We want to spend our paychecks as WE see fit.

if trump says anything connected to an investigation because he thinks it helps him in some way that could be obstruction of justice.

There's always pushback, and rightfully so. Defunding Meals on Wheels won't be popular. But perhaps there is middle ground, and that private funding goes a long way to keep them in business...much of discretionary spending is bloated and inefficient. We can and should at least try to do more with less. Unless you truly approve of a bloated Federal government, where many employees are inadequate, and are nearly impossible to fire, regardless of job performance. The current business model is that it isn't run like a business. Not that Trump personally isn't the ideal choice, but his vision got him to where we find ourselves...Congress approves Presidental budget proposals. They hold the purse strings. Consider it a first draft...
