Block vs. Defense Topic

If you want to defend a post player which option would be better? Assume athleticism and speed are the same on both players. Also assume the player being defended doesn't have a jump shot.

Option1: Great defense and low block
Option 2: Great block and low defense.

Obviously both would help but which one is more important in this situation?

Thanks

I would say great defense would probably be most important. You can always play great defense on each possession, but you can't always block a shot on every possession. And with a weaker defense, you run the risk of putting the player at the line or fouling out.

Great input, thank you.

Where would LP factor in (may I ask) in a good defend Center?

Depends on your defense.

If it's a C in a 2-3 zone, 90 blk, I would go with that. The press seem to like high block also. Man to man, def for sure. But it depends on the rating. I came up with a def value with my player role.

If you are talking about James Cedeno, his ath is too low, give him 10 min max. Play both your frosh that don't rebound. 80-80 ath, def is great. If one of the two passes well, has 40+ bh, he could slide at the SF spot.

To expound in the type of defense thing, the block rating is most important for a C in zone and the least important in press.
