I just can't stand being misinformed (or wrong lol) so I just spent 10 minutes doing some very easy research courtesy of a google search-------- all about this national debt business. Here's what I easily found.
In 1950 the entire National debt was 260 BILLION Dollars (that's with a B!)
Under Ike, JFK, and LBJ, the debt was increased by approx. 110 Billion bucks. (That's a growth rate of a bit over 40%, right?)
Under Nixon (in 6 years) policies added 115 Billion (approx.) in debt. (a growth rate of over (approx) 30%)
Under Ford (in 2 yrs) his policies added 145 Billion (approx.) in debt. (a very similar growth rate-- a bit under 30%, I think)
Carter's policies (and Presidency) added 280 Billion dollars of debt. (a growth rate of approx. 44%)
At this point (after Carter!) the debt was still UNDER 1 trillion dollars.
Now, here's where I was wrong about things. I claimed it was Bush I. I was wrong. It was Reagan who was worst.
Under Reagan the debt increased (8 yrs.) by 1,692 Billion Dollars!!! (That's over a trillion all by itself!-----MORE than Doubling the debt.--- a growth rate of (approx.) 170+%)
Under George H.W. Bush another 1,401 Billion dollars was added (a growth rate of over 54%)
Under Clinton it grew by over another (approx.) 1,500 Billion dollars---- a slightly SLOWER growth rate.
Then came W. Under his policies and administration the debt ballooned by OVER 4,000 Billion Dollars! (that's 4 trillion bucks folks!)
And (once again----just like under Reagan) that's a growth rate in (our) debt of nearly 100%!
During the last 8 years (Obama!) another (approx.) 8,000 Billion Dollars was added to (our) debt. (a growth rate of nearly 80%!)
As you can see, BOTH parties are horridly (maybe equally) responsible, AND I was WRONG to blame W's Daddy.
Reagan's policies clearly exploded the debt problem far worse than any PREVIOUS administration.
Since then (Bush I,Clinton and after) the debt has increased at a (too rapid) rate almost continuously, slowing slightly under George H.W. and Clinton but increasing hugely (again) under W and nearly as fast under Obama.
Reagan's supporters will cite "Reasons" that this policy had to be enacted.
So can Obama and his side by citing the near economic collapse HE inherited from W.
But, it's quite obvious, ANY Repugnant attempting to claim better fiscal responsibility by Repuplican administrations is clearly misinformed or full of bulls%%t!
