Redshirt ineligible Topic

I became convinced I was giving too many minutes in study hall. Cut my dumbest guy to 10m and he came in at 1.9 after 13 games.

He's a redshirt. Now he's also ineligible. Will he still develop? Anything special for next season?

He'll still develop. It's hard to tell the impact of that situation. I think the affects are as follows:
  • Lower overall GPA which may require more SH minutes in the future
  • Slower in season ability growth
  • And if ineligible after the second term, lower off season growth

Thanks. He wasn't developing much anyway but another game/practice had passed and he didn't gain anything.

FWIW, the was 1.7 at mid-term and went to 1.9 at finals with 10m. Not sure if there's anything to be learned but, from the forum advice I'd been reading, I thought it was enough.

"...from the forum advice I'd been reading..."

Now you are reminded how good the forum consensus is.

I have found that some of the advice is terrible. But it's free advice. You get what you pay for sometimes.

my rule of thumb for freshman is 3.2 minus the midterm grade = second semester practice.
so with a 1.7 midterm, I'd suggest 15 minutes of study hall.

This doesn't surprise me. Guys that already ineligible are a box of rocks. I would have probably started with 10 minutes from the get-go. Even next season he'll still be dumb as ****.

Where did you see forum advice on SH minutes for inels?

Edit- sometimes funny things happen with GPA. See this thread for what I mean

I started with 7.

Not exactly sure which thread(s) gave me the idea to lower minutes. I just know I saw a lot less SH minutes suggested than I'd been giving. With Pritts, same team and also inel at recruitment, I started with 15.

Didn't take long to find one source:

Study Hall - at least 5-8 minutes for freshmen. 5 if 3.0 HS GPA, 8 if 2.0 GPA. Remove 1 point as he moves up seniority. Seniors usually only need 1 or 0.
4/10/2017 2:02 PM
Start with 0 mins for anyone with a HS GPA at 3 or above, 5 mins with 2.5-2.99 GPAs, 8-10 mins for those below that. Work up from there at midterms.

I've never done more than 7 minutes for study hall. Ever.

The three above are just samples of why I started with 7 then jumped to 10.

Pretty much this.

I had five guys recently sign who were 3.25 and higher high school. I set them all at zero and so far no issues.

the time to up his study hall was when his mid term grades came in low.

Most responsible forum posts about study hall will advise upping the minutes if low at midterm - and especially if that low.

Most of the time, that's enough.

When you have guys with low HS GPA's (like 2.2 and less) you are going to lose a few if you aren't real heavy on the SH minutes. I lose a guy every 10 seasons or so, it happens.

There are plenty of posts that start, "I have never had anyone go ineligible...." maybe you read those......
