Would You Consider this player at big 6 D1 Topic

I have minimal experience coaching D1, mainly enjoy the challenges of D3 and D2 more, anyways on to the matter at hand. But I came across a player the other day that intrigued me, but saw a power six D1 school jump on him.

Here are his potentials:

ATH: C(black)
Spd: F+(blue)
Reb: A- (black)
Def: D(blue)
Blk: A- (black)
LP: A-(orange)
Per: F-(blue)
BH: F(blue)
Pass: F- (black)
Work Ethic: B
Stamina: B-(blue)
Dur: B+ (black)
FT: D(blue)

Just curious to see everyone's opinion on this, is he a viable option at a big 6 school?

Never. The Defense was the only thing I looked at.

I stop at C black ATH, but D blue DEF makes me think... Heck. no way.

I am no as well.

I wouldn't take him on my low major team.

Figured nobody would take him. I was recruiting him for my D3 school, but got pushed out of the race by the Big 6 school.

I would scout further. If speed and defense are in fact green and in the high end of the range, maybe. Particularly if he fit my system.

I would not say never to most players. I like being flexible since I am building my teams and always trying to learn.

Not taking this guy unless I have spent all the money and lost those battles, run the FCP, AND NEED a 10th player for my press near the deadline. Speed and defense have to be green. Then I set him at 4-8 minutes just to give a short break to the others.

Next couple of seasons he rides my bench as my 11th or 12th man or is cut early when I find a better player to replace him at minimal effort.

It is tough to fill out a roster every season with studs across the board. As D1 welcomes more coaches it will become harder.

This is a great point. I was looking at it from the standpoint of would I WANT this guy. But sometimes you get desperate and just NEED a player. I've certainly done this every blue moon.

Another possibility is that the Big 6 coach just took over that school as a rebuild and needed to find somewhat competent guys to replace the crappy sim-recruited players that they inherited. I just moved to Villanova in Knight and the roster was all sim-recruited guys, several with DEF in the 40s and below. I cut a few guys and scrambled to find players that had decent ratings with room for growth, ended up taking some players that D2/D3 schools were on.

Would I want that guy long-term on my Villanova team? No. Would I have taken him this first recruiting cycle to at least get some decent defense with solid rebounding/scoring potential? Definitely.

The coach started recruiting him in first session. He's been at the school for 10 plus seasons.
