I'm going to give my generic advice for the day.

I think people do not give enough value to BH and passing. Especially in certain offenses.

I see people recruiting bigs all the time with high Ath, Def, and Reb, but single digit in BH and pass. Just doesn't seem right.
Which offenses? Everything but fastbreak?

Ha, thanks. I know it's a talented team, but I'm pretty sure if I was a better coach I could get more out of them. I'll feel like an epic failure if I don't get a sweet 16 out of that squad.
I'm no expert but looking at your roster it looks like a guard with really good BH/P would do you some good. Your team is averaging more TO's per game than assists.
playing off this - i have no idea how this would go, but if you want to experiment here is something you might consider:
1. Give Reeves more minutes. He can play defense, handle the ball, and is your best passer
2. Give Jacobs more touches. He is by far your most efficient scorer so far
3. If you want to get really crazy, consider having the starting lineup be Reeves, Head, Jaskolski, Jones, Lucifer (what a name!)
then have the bench be Mock, Henley, Jacobs, Howell, Seigler
The big idea is that Reeves will just dribble the ball up and distribute. The scoring on the 1st unit will be largely handled by Head, Jaskolski, and Jones. The defense will be great on this unit.
Then on the backup unit, you have Mock and Jacobs handling the scoring, and Jacobs' passing makes up for Mock's inability to distribute.
Give Mock a disproportionately high amount of minutes relative to Reeves - Mock should get some minutes with the starting lineup
This may totally not work, but if you feel like you are underachieving then changing things up might be worthwhile. That being said, I DONT think you are underachieving. You have lost 2 games against quality opponents. Don't be afraid to tinker - it can really help. But I wouldn't feel disappointed in your performance so far

You nailed it tg. Great observation. I graduated 2 guys last year and one was a PG with really good BH/P. Didn't realize how much that would hurt the team.

Slayterhill's Occidental team is a perfect example. All the Athleticism and Defense you could possibly want, but limited passing skills in a Motion offense.

This is really good insight too. I may try a mix of these recommendations, especially against some of the tougher defensive teams. I started off 10-0 and was getting used to just steamrolling weaker teams, but like I said, this is a really tough conference, so no shame in dropping a few games. Just want to make sure I'm doing everything I can to win against the best competition.

My Weber St team too. #1 team defense in DI. Average DE of starters is about 94. It's definitely a good team (especially with my rebounding) but I think I'll struggle against good defense teams. I actually looked really good against Illinois. Let's be honest though, it's a little useful that I have played uptempo every game and only allowed over 70 points once, in overtime.

Would you ever consider putting McNelis as your starting PG?

I would consider it, yet, but this year he is performing so much better, even against a softer schedule.

That Weber State team looks really good this year. Especially considering you had to build it from a D- in a low D1 conference.

A lot of the posts on here recommend against rushing into low D1, but building up a team like that and competing with the big boys sounds like a lot of fun. I'm gonna have to give it a shot soon. I think if I have a Top 25 team by year 4 of the rebuild, I'd be pretty happy.

Yeah it is a lot of fun. I highly recommend trying it out.

I feel like you're the guy that's standing in a pool of molten lava and saying "Come on in, the water's fine!"

Ha, but in all seriousness, I'll probably give it a shot next season in Phelan if I qualify for anything decent at the D1 level.

Mike went off so I deleted all my way off topic posts and screened out his.

So I skipped over 90% of the useless crap in this thread.. what is the verdict on guards with super low Def but 85+ PER / 60 P? Good off the bench or not worth on the roster ? I play a zone but it's hard to hide a player that doesn't bother defending what's so ever.
5/12/2017 9:17 PM
I use players like that off the bench for a scoring punch.
