i signed a player and would like to red shirt him. I promised him minutes and playing time was one of his preferences. I do not want to lose him. My question is if I redshirt home and he doesn't like it can I remove the redshirt so he will stay? And also can I redshirt 2 players?

You can remove the redshirt without penalty. You can't redshirt more than one player per season. You can redshirt sophomores sometimes, though.

You can remove a RS before the end of exhibition games, I believe, without being locked into anything. As for RS two players, you can't. You can only RS one a season.

I'm not sure, but I don't think the player will take the RS without losing WE if you promised him minutes. Try it. If he's upset, just remove it.

So he won't just transfer if I redshirt? I'll have the option to remove it before he leaves?

If you red shirt a player you made promises to during recruiting his WE will plummet. You can try to RS him as a sophomore next season and see if he'll take it without the WE hit.

Right, I just mean if there's another guy you want to redshirt in the class, you can try it next year. Probably won't work for a player you've promised minutes to, though I don't know for sure. Hasn't worked for me.

I figured you knew. Thought maybe Indiana didn't. I'm in my first year at Purdue. Last season, all three freshmen I tried to RS took a pretty decent WE hit. I can't afford that during a rebuild, so I ended up not RS anyone.

I'm still upset about it.

He won't transfer. If you remove the R/S before the season is over then you basically nullify the player's freshman season because you had him on the bench all year long and you won't get the extra season out of him.
