Considering that the 100 years immediately after the Civil War resulted in the US leapfrogging ALL of the other industrial nations, it seems to have worked.

Oh, and by the way, FDR pretty much orchestrated the US entry into WW2. He knew about the Japanese plans in the Pacific, and basically sat on his hands until they crossed the line (which he probably though would be the Philippines, and not Hawaii).

Freeing 4 million slaves that the South was never going to give up was also cool.

Mike, in your alternate reality, everything is perfect and there is always a perfect decision. Not in this reality. It worked out pretty OK, IMO
