New Yorker article on Bernie's "Medicare for All" bill.

And it isn’t only Democrats who respond positively to the notion of a national health-care plan. The Pew survey from this summer showed that fifty-three per cent of all respondents say they favor a single-payer health-care system. In recent years, the biggest gains have come among self-identified independents, fifty-five per cent of whom now express support. Only among self-identified Republicans is the Sanders approach unpopular. Even in this group, though, a substantial minority (twenty-eight per cent) said that they would support a single-payer system.

One reading of these figures is that most Americans have had their fill of the private health-care system, and, when they are presented with an alternative that offers them the prospect of no longer having to deal with insurance companies, they like the sound of it. “I think the American people are sick and tired of filling out forms,” Sanders told Weigel. “Your income went up—you can’t get this. Your income went down—you can’t get that. You’ve got to argue with insurance companies about what you thought you were getting.”

Without cheating, what album knocked off the Beatles White Album as no. 1 on the U.K. album charts and also prevented Beggar's Banquet from reaching no.1 in 68-69?

if this was true, why do you keep redlining my posts? I haven't called anyone names or insulted anyone. Yet, every post I've made in this thread has been redlined. Not that I really care one way or the other.

I have no idea about charts, never paid attention to that stuff. But based on the year I'll guess something by Dylan, The Doors or Jimi Hendrix. Or else something totally awful like Nancy Sinatra or The Archies.

The price tag would be enormous. California was told their single payer would cost twice the state's entire budget. People don't realize what rationing health care means. They will vomit when they are given very limited choices where they can go, and how long they will wait for services. The quality of care will stink. Why do you cling to the notion that our government will do something to meet or exceed our expectations?

We need to get struggling people some decent Healthcare. No excuses not to. But the rest of us truly want to make decisions for ourselves, not by some govt dolt behind a desk.

There are better options than a govt run system. Do you enjoy going to the DMV, or calling an IRS help desk? That would be the feeling walking into a government run Healthcare system. Sorry, I am not going to be treated like livestock.

Bernie is an idealist. The guy probably means well, but has no idea how to do something tangible other than write LaLa Land as his return address. We can't afford to give more and more to our government to mismanage.

good points , doc...i do have to hear more but if it can work we need to do it.....it works for 65 and over....canada is happy with their universal healthcare.......it would not be govt run...it would be expanded medicare program........we must always begin with ideals.........

If a plan is put forth that will do everything we want at an affordable cost, I will give it consideration. Eight years ago we were promised the moon. It didn't deliver as promised. Call me skeptical. ..
