Well sorta. The players protesting probably did so figuring that their own public nature (as NFL players in this case) would cause (some) fans to become more aware of the (perceived) injustice and they probably figured they were safe to do so because of the players union and it's power to protect them.

As for the monopoly and the anti-trust exemption............ THAT wasn't given to the players, THAT was given to the league--------- essentially it's 30 owners!!
The individual and corporate conglomerates (and 1 public?--Green Bay) that comprise the league's ownership.

The players?????............. LOL........ Until quite recently (and maybe still when you consider the brain injuries) those guys were just well, cattle. Little more than paid slaves.

Okay, I reread your post. You did not say they should be locked up, but all they are doing is exercising their right to free speech. They have every right to do so. The government, or you have no right to tell them they can't protest. The NFL has that right since they are being paid by the NFL.

So they were forced to become NFL players instead of getting "real" jobs?
NOTHING at all like being slaves. Put the Liberal handbook down and maybe you'll stop posting such stupid sheit, that serves no purpose other than ensuring people on the other side of the discussion they are right.

they are in a dangerous sport. They deserve compensation
I'm pretty sure the average salary in the NFL is higher than it is for most office jobs in the US.

I am also pretty sure that playing in the NFL is more dangerous and lasts shorter.
Again, which NFL (or any other professional League) players were forced to be part of that League? NONE!
That, along with the millions of dollars they get paid, are why it's NOTHING at all like slavery.
Even implying they are remotely close is one of the dumbest things ever posted on this site, and that's saying something.
