Standing up for this nation and what it aspires to be is exactly what they are doing. They may not be doing so in the best way or the way you would do so, but they see what they think is a problem in this country and they are protesting to try and address that problem.
And "a few isolated, local incidents" ?? I'm guessing you are not an African-American so you have no idea how they feel or how the feel. Neither do I but at least I have some empathy for them.
https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.washingtonpost.com/amphtml/news/volokh-conspiracy/wp/2016/07/18/police-shootings-and-race/

54% of police shootings were white people
28% were black
18% were Hispanic

The protests are ongoing because the facts aren't reported. The media portrays it as every shooting being of a black person.
Less than 15 percent of the US population is black. The actual ratio is the problem
Blacks are less than 15% of the US population but commit just over 50% of the homicides in the US. That ratio is a problem. And don't call me a racist- those numbers are from the Obama Administration Justice Department.

People seem to think death-by-cop should be like affirmative action- the numbers should match race ratios in the population. That is lazy thinking, and it doesn't make sense when you have segment of the population committing crime at an extremely disproportionate rate.
Hmmmm....maybe because black people have been institutionally segregated against for years... If you raise someone poorly, they will act poorly. Maybe fix the problems instead of complaining about the results.
I'm huge on self accountability. There are plenty that make the right choices and go to college and/or pursue careers. The blame for the high crime rate among blacks is put solely on the backs of black males. Stick around and raise your children. For close to 40 years now, blacks have been given as much, if not more, opportunity than any other race.
Except that institutional racism puts people in poverty and our educational system makes sure they stay there.
Yup, look at the history of redlining for a really good look at the institutional racism that has been a part of this country since the earlier 1900's.
No-one wants to argue this point?
No one likes to admit that they benefit from racism
Unless it's called Affirmative Action.

If you want to not be poor in America you need to achieve these three things:

#1) Graduate HS
#2) Get a job
#3) Don't be a single parent

In the 1960s 20% of African Americans were single parents. In 2017 that # is 70%. Is the US more racist now than it was in the 70s? I think not. The wealthiest segment in the US is not whites it is Asian Americans. White privilege is not real. Is the US only racist vs. certain groups? I think not. The problem is not race it is culture. Change the culture and everything will be better. Capitalism only values one color. Green.

Turn to capitalism if you want true "equality"
What are statistics that relate single paranthood to poverty? And incidents like redlining PREVENT black people feom getting jobs.
How so?

I could give you more. Redlining ensured that black people wouldn't be in good neighborhoods, and good neighborhoods get worse schools.

The "protest" by the former NFL player was not about the flag or the anthem. It was his attempt to bring attention to his cause. He figured (He "reckoned" the hill country folks would say) his "act" would bring attention to his cause (police violence against un-armed black men) because the National Anthem is such a bright spotlight in that it's played before EVERY game with cameras rolling scanning the players and the crowd, etc.

It seems to have worked as so many marshmellows on the right got their panties all bunched up in a wad, including the head facist-in-chief, who has the thinnest skin in the land. He seems to have really helped with the cause by his whining about it.

This isn't even close to being right. The first time he "protested", he was just lounging on the bench. Arms spread, legs out, he looked like he was watching a game on his couch at home. He was ****** off because it was announced that Blaine Gabbert had won the preseason battle for the starting job, and was pouting on the bench.

Someone asked him about it and he fabricated the story about a "protest" about oppression, even though it's not really a protest when you're just lounging on the bench pouting. So the next week, he had a much better story and a much more visible "protest", orchestrated and spoon fed by his new militant girlfriend. Within the month, he had an afro, cop/pig socks, and Castro t-shirts.

Trump's threat to pull NBC's license drew Sen. Ben Sasse, R-Neb., into the fight. The centrist Republican Sasse is a frequent right-wing opponent of the president.

Sasse released a statement asking if the president was recanting his oath of office due to his challenge of the First Amendment.

"Mr. President: Words spoken by the President of the United States matter," the brief statement reads. "Are you tonight recanting the oath you took on January 20th to preserve, protect, and defend the First Amendment?"

Exactly.
So there's less white police violence against black men now than there was a year ago? Can you show us the numbers that back that up, because I'd think if anything, it's just the opposite because of elevated racial tension.
Also, are people really talking about the (so called?) reason of the protest, or just about the protest itself?
