Hey guys - Brian made a good callout in the Themes thread. Javy Lopez is in both Group 5 and Group 6 (you guys also have Javier Lopez in this group). With the amount of misspellings that are present in the D.E.A.L. dataset (go check out the draft threads), this must have slipped through.

While I generally want to avoid making changes to a pool mid-draft, I think we're still early enough where it's likely that no one is planning around Javy Lopez.

If anyone feels strongly about him not being removed from this group, let me know. Otherwise, I'm going to remove him and keep him with Group 5 as he should be.

Although no one would plan for Javy Lopez as their full time catcher, it does seem like there is a shortage of catcher PA's in group 6. Most of the catchers have their best seasons as 150 - 450 PA's. I would hate to see this turn into a "screw your neighbor draft" where someone doesn't end up with enough catcher PA's to get through the season.

You guys are definitely somewhat light at C.

It looks as though there would be an average of 901 catcher PAs if the best seasons of each option were used (840 if Pudge's best partial season is used rather than a full). My take is that positional scarcity is part of the draft here (look at what happened to mildnhazy in Group 5), such is the nature of using a small player pool like this to begin with, but I'm open to listening to the group here.

I object! There's enough PAs but not a lot a lot of high quality Catchers. Removing Javy makes one less good catcher. With a shortage somebody might have selected a Catcher sooner in the draft. And removing him may start a run on Catchers which unfairly affects whoever is last at that time. Also, our group is already weak at the all important SP and to a lesser extent at 3B, another weak position makes us less competitive. And I've always avoided leagues that change rules midstream, just on general principles.

I think you gotta keep Javy Lopez in both groups out of principle.

These are good arguments I think. Someone could have taken a catcher much earlier if there were fewer C's available. And it is valuable to have a "no changes midway" convention. I think I was wrong to agree with taking Javy out of the player pool.

Yep, as I've thought about this tonight I've begun to agree.

I would hate to see a run on catchers immediately following this, clearly directly influenced by this. I also am generally averse to making a change midstream, and I think the integrity of the league would arguably be compromised by changing the pool at this point, especially when the pool is small to begin with - especially when considering Lopez isn't a high impact player like Silver King or someone else of that caliber.

So, we'll leave Javy available for both Group 5 (where he's already been drafted) and here in Group 6.
