I was able to jump from D-3, but you really need an impressive resume and even then, you would probably only get a low level D-1 job.

I jumped directly from D3 to D1. In Tark, I built D3 Bridgewater State into A/A+ prestige and jumped directly to D- Miami OH. As thewizard said, you are going to get a fairly low-level D1 gig.

All 5 of my D-3 teams qualify for 8-12 Big6 jobs every year, but never higher than currently C prestige (that I can remember).

I havent looked but I don't think ive qualified for a B- D1 job only been a longshot. I dont look after every season, but Linfield would be the team that qualifies for the most jobs.

Yep, I was eligible for D1 after 9 seasons at D3 in Knight. D- teams only, then after 10 seasons a few D/D+ teams were qualified too.

Although if you're looking for the quickest route, I think taking over a decent D2 team after a few D3 seasons will get you there a bit faster.

Ive had this conversation with very successful D3 coaches. To make that jump youll need consistence NT appearances including atleast a FF run. It would definitely take less time to go D3 to D2 before applying to D1 jobs. Unless you managed to cherry-pick a great squad, but no one enjoys cherry-picking and running with someone else's great squad.

I've qualified for D1 twice after just 4 seasons of D3. As others have said you need to have deep runs in there.

During the job period, look at the Division 1 schools and see which ones you are listed as "qualified" for (as opposed to "keep looking," "longshot" or "not qualified")

As a DIII coach he will probably see 'Not Qualified" for all of the DI jobs and "Step Backwards" or "Qualified" for all the DII jobs.

I don’t see this.. when I click on d1 jobs it brings up all the d1 teams looking for a coach. I can click on this message symbol and some guy asks me if I hit my head in practice I must be crazy to apply for this job. Do I have to click on every team to see what this guy says? If I click on d2 schools he says I am a good fit at this school. Sorry if this is a dumb question..

It probably says "Not Qualified" by it or something like that. I would find the lowest rated D1 school and look at it, like one that is at D- prestige and just had a 1-25 season. If you don't qualify for that, then you would need more time. I have qualified for D1 from D3 before as well, but it will definitely be a low level team.

Lol it was sarcasm. There are many great cherry pickers in HD who only take over teams that were left by successful coaches. I secretly hope those teams crash and burn.

Yep. I'm currently qualified for as high as D+ level roles in Knight DI.

After this season I probably won't be though...
