I'll be contributing even less than usual to the music lists going forward, as I haven't kept up much with new stuff this century. But one song I like from 2003 is Romulus by Sufjan Stevens.

for some reason i dont like male country singers voices but i dolike female country singer voices.
i listened to afew songs by the thorns....they sound a lot like America.
not sure if you were responding to my post about Reckless Kelly, but I wouldn't really consider them country. Certainly country influenced, but not country.

well, there is still some great music being made if you know where to look!
12/6/2017 1:02 PM
i was just saying in general about country singers that i like the voices of the female country singers.
12/6/2017 1:19 PM
oh, okay. Not a real big country music fan myself, but looking at my lists it does seem there are more female country artists than male.

I've been limited in time lately......... but here's my better late than never 2003 list.

1. Lucero --- "That Much Further West" (Wow! Hit me like a ton of bricks. Still listen to this all the time)
2. Ryan Adams --- "Love Is Hell" (released as Pt.1 and then Pt. 2, initially, I include it here in it's later released full form---as Ryan intended!)
3. Rickie Lee Jones --- "The Evening Of My Best Day" (Her best since "Pirates", it takes you there! Bears repeated listening)
4. Rodney Crowell --- "Fates Right Hand" (More Americana from one of the best songwriters, skewed observations of us)
5. Danny O'Keefe & Bill Braun --- "Don't Ask" (Quirky gem that stands out for me from the prized releases of Mr. O'Keefe)
6. Calexico --- "Feast Of Wire" (soaring and enchanting. The other side of creative rock)
7. Rosanne Cash --- "Rules Of Travel" (Awfully slickly produced BUT probably her best since her split with Rodney Crowell this contains duets with Sheryl Crow, Steve Earle, and her Father the great Johnny Cash. Great songs and I really probably should listen to this more. It's really really good!)
8. John Hiatt --- "Beneath This Gruff Exterior" (His best since Stolen Moments?)
9. Blitzentrapper --- "Blitzentrapper" (The debut from the Portland Oregon rock? band. Real hard for me to describe this..... and I don't like all of it!)
10. Drive-By Truckers --- "Decoration Day" (Jason Isbell takes wings and the "Truckers" deliver their best to date!)

Honorable mention: Get this one!
Jethro Tull --- "Tull Xmas" (LOL! I haven't even heard this one but the concept is good enough for me to put it on my mention list and IF I EVER see it I'm buying it!! Imagine it........... Jingle Balls Indeed!)

I can't believe I left Rules of Travel off my 2003 list. The song Roseann Cash sings with her dad "September When It Comes" is a beautiful song.

a really great song from 2004 was cinammon park by jill sobule........
12/7/2017 12:21 PM
i always have in mind Pinotfan when i am devising my lists........gone for some time now but not forgotten....... in addition to wines he was also one of our great music fans.

A Salud to Pinot! Indeed he was a real great guy.

My 2004 list has some goodies I think!

1. Wilco --- "A Ghost Is Born" (The band hits full throttle and is getting set to lift off!)
2. Rush ---- "Feedback" (Rush goes psycho and covers late 60's anthems. Killer versions of The Who, Springfield, Neil Young, R. Johnson!! ROCKS!)
3. Norah Jones --- "Feels Like Home" (Indeed it does. Wears well, and she just sparkles.)
4. Todd Snider --- "East Nashville Skyline" (This one is full of GREAT stories and contains "Iron Mike","Tillamook County Jail", and "Incarcerated")
5 Mark Knopfler --- "Shangri-La" (His best solo LP to date)
6. BoDeans --- "Resolution" ("If It Makes You", start jiggling it has to be Sammy and Kurt in harmony, also contains "Two Souls", and other good 'uns)
7. Kev'n Kinney's Sun Tangled Angel Revival --- (Sometimes referred to as Kev's STAR, this is a killer and quirky gem. One of my favorites!)
8..Roger Clyne & The Peacemakers --- "Americano" (From the guy who fronted The Refreshments and brought us the theme song to "King of The Hill" comes a Mexican inspired rock fiesta!! The Peacemakers deliver their best CD to date!)
9. Old 97's --- "Drag It Up" (Previously mentioned but released in 2004!)
10. Wilbur Hung --- "Inspiration" (Indeed it was. Inspired me to realize just how many completely tasteless folks there are)

12/7/2017 3:42 PM
i agree on the wilco album...it is more experimental and really a work of art....thenold 97s was a bubbling under for me....i think the preceding album was much better....if you havnt heard it you will like it a lot...much more realized melodies....im going to check out the rush album and bodeans.
