How important is advanced scouting? Topic

I Just bought a franchise and getting ready to start my first season. I'm trying to figure my budget. How important is advanced scouting? how much do you all budget for advanced scouting? Thanks for your help.

As a new player, I would highly recommend going high. It will give you a better gauge of who your prospects are and will help you in trades. I go "0" on it, but I don't trade for a lot of prospects and also feel fairly comfortable judging development without it.

Also, as new owner, be very skeptical of each trade offered to you. People love to feast on new owners learning the game.

LOL thanks for advice.

No. Get to zero as fast as you can. If you're not trading for 2nd/3rd year players, and as a new owner you shouldn't trade for your own good, you don't need it.

Agreed. Go to zero asap. Also don't make any trades at all for your first 2 seasons

Just to be clear: With a zero advanced scouting budget, the projected ratings for any player 26 years or younger will be very far off. Also realize the owners saying to go to zero quickly are experienced owners who already know how player development works. The average in one of my worlds is 8 so not everyone goes to zero.

Bottom line is: Do not get discouraged if you do not win a lot the first couple of seasons. Use them as a learning experience while trying various things to see how they work.

I'd say take a little bit from everyone who gave you advice here and use your own judgement.

If you like making trades / want to make trades get your advanced budget high until you get a feel for the game. Without it you won't be able to tell which prospects under 26 are good and which aren't.

Even without knowing the game I would say to do what the vet owners have reccomended. Move your advance scouting to zero and try not to make any trades unless you absoloutly have to. Spend a few seasons, figure out which players are good and which ones are not before going from there.

When I started, I had a couple seasons where I kept it higher. I'm not sure I would again if I was a new owner though. Development patterns are similar and after a couple seasons there's enough 'free' info in the league to get a fairly decent handle on it.

If you decide to go lower on it, check the player card for your players in terms of where they were drafted and how they progressed season-to-season. Do the same in-season for recent top-10, 20, 30 picks and IFA to get a feel for development patters.

If you screen shot/export/save draft ranks and run a high HS or Col draft scouting, you'll get a decent idea on half the prospect pool
