D-2 All in on Recruit Topic

I was wondering how D-2 coaches had fared when going after a strong D-1 recruit, where they had about 4 or 5 very good in preferences(0-1 bad to very bad), 80 APs per cycle, maxed out on HV/CV while giving start and 25 minutes to someone that wants to play. Maybe not a 5 star player, but maybe 3-4 where a high prestige D-1 school is less willing to give playing time? Anyone interested in sharing their experience?

Also, how is D-1 D- prestige compare to D-2 A+? If D-2 A+ is higher, what is the equivalent to a D-1 prestige grade?

D- D1 is higher than A+ D2, prestige wise. They will always have a (small) prestige advantage.

But the D2 can have preference advantages that more than make up for it, wants success and long time coach, in particular.

I dont mind fighting a C level or below D1 team for a guy, though I’d limit it to one per season, since going “all in” has a higher opportunity cost for D2. I fought (and lost to) a C+ level mid major for a one-star big rated somewhere in the #30 range at position. I don’t know exactly what effort he put forth, but I maxed visits and spent ~50 or so AP per cycle, and barely snuck up to high in the second session, before he went with the other guy, something like 73-27.

I went after a 4-star as an A- or B+ D1 school and had a pesky A+ D2 school that wouldn't go away. I had ~30 APs per cycle into the kid and promised 20 minutes and a start, as well CV and 20 HVs. I don't think I had any bad or very bad preferences and had multiple good and very goods. Just before signings an A+ D1 school came into the mix. The final signing odds were something like 40/30(me)/30(D2). I barely had better odds than the D2 school, which really surprised me.

I'm wondering if it can be done more successfully with 80 APs per cycle. This is my last year at Chico and will try to make the jump to D-1, so may give it a shot. Just not sure how the SIM will respond in the 2nd cycle or if there is a reduction credit. When I left Wake, it signed all 3 of my players that I was on, so maybe not.

Darnoc, do you know the preferences of the D2 team that was on him? For him to be that close, he must have dropped a considerable amount of APs(maybe 60-80 per cycle?)

You need to hide your effort somehow until It's time to crunch it or the D1 will obliterate you unless it's a late signee. Don't forget you need to keep the D1 to moderate until 2nd. Get the minutes, starts in... but I would not spend a dime unless I need to spend the cv because too many people are involved. By the way, handling agressive sims (you won't be able for more than one battle). If it's human owned, be a snake.

There is an additional divisional multiplier between D1 and D2 on top of the prestige.

I think it's much too small though.

Interesting. So it's not Div-1 C- is to Div-1 D+ compared to, for instance, Div-1 D- to Div-2 A+ , which in both instances is 1/3rd of a grade?

Correct, it's a bigger jump.

After the first recruiting period. A bit surprised at this result.

I'll add more comments when he signs.
