Tang, you really need to learn what opportunity is. That student who dropped out to support his family made a choice. He had the opportunity to get a diploma and go to college. He made a choice not to. Please learn that everything that happens in life is a product of a choice. It will really make you a more effective person.
Fine. I concede. Most everyone has opportunity. You agree that equal opportunity does not exist?
No, I don't agree with that. Name one opportunity that whites have, that minorities don't. You and B_L have yet to name one.
LOL, pull your head out of the sand. Just because it "seems" like people have equal opportunities, doesn't in fact mean they do.
When the across the street neighbors from my grandparents were selling their house back in the late 70's, they showed it to a black family. Right after they showed it to the family, Mr. Parker rolled around to the neighbors telling them not to worry, there's no way he would sell it to the negros. In a perfect world, yes everyone as the same opportunities, but this is the real world, not the perfect world.
We don't live in the 70's. That was almost 50 years ago. That's the problem we're running into. The left keeps using arguments from the 60's and 70's. Times have changed. Are minorities still effected by those decades? Only if they allow themselves to be effected. The opportunities are more than there to live a productive, fruitful life.
Taint, B_L, and Tang have yet to name opportunity that whites have that minorities don't.
A) the fact that things aren’t as bad now as they were in the 60s, when blacks were still being lynched, doesn’t change the fact that blacks still face an uphill battle.
B) We can still point to things today - arrest and charge rates for simple drug possession, the lack of blacks in executive positions, the fact that the current president is a racist, as proof there is institutional racism in this country.
