Our school system has cut foreign languages for middle school. More Gov't incompetence and inability to balance a budget. Parents are ready to charge with pitchforks.

Our high school used to have 3 foreign languages, a flourishing debate and forensics program, and a good art program. Now we just have Spanish and barely a budget for regular classes. Thanks, Brownback.

The city SD nearest me (about 5 miles) has a Board who would rather spend money on a $1 million football field, a new baseball field, and constantly sending athletic teams to other States to play games, than on books and proper heat. Why? Because that's what the majority of parents want prioritized. It's not an issue of funding, it's an issue of priorities of the residents within the district. I'd suspect this isn't the only city SD where this happens.

That's true for some schools. It is the exception to the rule.

Again the less the Govt interferes the better off we all are.

That is a bad conclusion to take. Government interference actually helps if they give more money. Without government interference the problem gets worse.

I mean the people who run the schools as the Gov't not outside influence of the Gov't.

I am saying that the federal government needs to intervene.

"Why is it so difficult for the LEFT to understand that people who cannot afford to have kids should not be having them? Boggles my mind."

Boris. Excuse me for attempting to speak for the "Left" (whatever THAT is?) BUT................

EVERYBODY (including the left) with some common sense at all UNDERSTANDS that "people who cannot afford to have kids should not be having them".
BUT, (and c'mon man you know this!) **** happens. Poor people fornicate, too. It isn't only the rich that get to do that. Pregnancies occur as a result.
Many, many families have children when it is NOT economically smart for them to do so. But, it just happened and many do NOT wish to choose abortion.........so they just suck it up and do the best they can....... by all their kids!
Others make differing choices. It's called freedom.

Society's role should be in increasing awareness of CHOICES available prior to pregnancy to attempt to mitigate (as much as is prudent) unplanned pregnancies. That way more children are born into homes WANTED and economically able to provide for them.

Instead many on the "RIGHT" (whatever THAT is) seem to want to just eliminate choice and freedom and have government (thru laws) LIMIT the choices available to women and young couples. We have one major denomination that still dogmatically insists that NO contraception be used in some sort of weird pretense that sex is only for procreation........... meanwhile it's very own clergy can't seem to keep their pants zipped up and their "members" (pun intended) tucked away in decent manner. I can't even imagine what goes on within the nun's residences!

Sex has always confounded the moralists amongst us. NOW they have invaded our political system and want to push their weird puritanical religious beliefs on us all by doing things like outlawing abortion........... it's crazy!!
Talk about increasing folks living in misery and poverty.............. let's have government MAKE poor folks have their babies........ tough ****, man. THEY were the ones who fornicated unwisely.......... make em pay by staying in poverty.

Meanwhile the rich fornicator who gets impregnated heads to some nice resort/spa/clinic in the Alps of Canada or somewhere and gets her situation solved and nobody is the wiser. That's the way it's been for decades, until very recently. Was it better?
Ask yourself... (God forbid that this should EVER occur to any Dad, anywhere) what would my daughter do IF she become unwantedly pregnant......... would She trust me and tell me? Would she be afraid to? Would She sneak off to a "clinic" somewhere without telling anyone in the family because of the "family's" religious viewpoint? And have a procedure performed illegally? For many, many years, too many Dads (and Moms) had horrid losses in their family because SOMEONE somewhere limited that girl's CHOICE/FREEDOM.

This Dad says BullSHIT to that! Powerful men should NOT be allowed to decide what women's FREEDOM means!

IMO, it's how Mohammad came to rule. And other so-called religious seers and prophets as well. It's the hidden evil of dogma/belief. Loss of personal freedom!

On American Schools, and my knowledge of Kansas schools

Bob, my wife wanted 4 kids. We settled on two because of the cost. Common sense man! Common sense!

I want a Ferrari but I cannot afford it. Want and need are different things and adults should be held responsible. Tangy believes that people who can't afford kids should still have them and that the Gov't should support them. Sadly.

The state has other priorities. That's why states are already messing up the budget so much. They are always gonna cut the school budgets.

I'm telling you, government can't fix poverty issues. This is going to have to come through proactivity in the individual communities. This is not a race issue. I live in a poor white community. It has the same issues as a poor black or Hispanic community. Poor financial choices are very apparent. Why do you think you don't see check cashing or title pawn places in wealthy neighborhoods?
I have been suggesting programs like Circles of Hope this whole time.
Yes you have. I am not sure what it is,but it sounds like a good thing. I'm guessing it's a private organization. The problem is for 1 post that you post about a private organization, you have 50 about we need more government this or that. Think deeper about how the private sector can have an impact and you'll be on the right track.
