1. The notes say that when I decide to perform a "Hosted Camp," I have no control over the division (1, 2 or 3) that the player are in that come to my camp. Is this true? I thought that I could select the division/s I want to invite from.

2. Also, the notes state that performing a hosted camp will scout players 2 levels. Does that mean that if every player that was invited to the camp was not discovered/ in my recruiting pool yet, they will all be scouted to level 2, which are just the black letters without the + and -?

3. Lastly, do you like to used these to in your scouting repertoire?

Thank you in advance.

1. Unless I missed a change notice, you can select the division you wish to target with your camp.

2. That is correct. Every player that comes to your camp will show at Level 2...so if they are a top 100 player, you would then have them at Level 3.

3. Absolutely vital IMO. The Mass camps are battle magnets -- lots of coaches lining up on the same talent. Your hosted camp is unique to you...some of the players will undoubtedly overlap with others' camps or even the mass camps, but it isn't a one-stop shop where any other coach who wants to pony up will immediately see the same thing as you do.

What notes are you referring to?

WRT cash spent. You get 2 levels for 200 recruits for $12,000. So that is $30/level. The normal assistant $1500/25 is $60/level. So the local camp is half price.

The Scouting Service is $15/level

I think it is a great value. I always invite the maximum - you can select your division.

Thanks for letting me know about this BDSaint. I goofed on the guide and said the division was random. I changed it to say you can choose your division. Chapel can upload and we'll be all good!

Sorry about that!

When you do a hosted camp and select more than one division, is there someway to know what kind of distribution you will get in the players that come to your camp? I mean If I am DIII will I get a bunch of DI recruits that I have no business recruiting or is there some known logic about the distribution of those recruits? Since I am in DIII does that mean I will see more DIII players or how does it work? Anyone have any ideas, or does anyone know?

Get a sense of what level player you were successfully recruiting already last season and go for those at your Hosted Camp this season. If you pick D2 and D3 for your players at Hosted Camp, you will get a pretty unpredictable mix of both levels. If you're a real good D3 school you might just check D2 players because you won't be very interested in any but the top D3 players. If you're a bottom-feeder D3 school you might want to just check D3 players, because you will be looking at top D3 players possibly without a lot of competition from higher prestige schools.

Another possibility is to do the Scouting Service first in the adjoining states, using the Division levels you think you might be interested in. The results could skew your interest in your Hosted Camp toward D2 or D3 players.

Good luck.

That's solid advice.

Bump to an old thread.
Is this still the consensus best way to go about scouting?

From the Guide to New 3.0:
1. FSS the states within your immediate area
2. Hold a private camp, inviting the maximum number possible
3. Sending out the assistant scout to recruit people up to the next level. You can do 25 at a time. You may have send the assistant 2-3 times.

Pretty much...although if you plan on doing internationals it might be better to FSS just them first, then send an assistant out to scout them up to higher levels on the cheap, then do as the above for the mainland kids.

But for the most part, I would say the above three steps are pretty solid.

Interesting.

Never have used any of the camps. Never even looked at the cost per recruit for camps. Looks a like a deal.

May have to better educate myself. (no comments!)

At high D1, the first thing I have been doing lately is using the assistant to further scout already discovered players within 500 or 750 miles. Then I have all of the top 100 that are fairly close by scouted up to Level 4, since those are mainly the players I want to go after - again this is for the very best teams I have.

I replace step 3 with individual scouting at D3
