The only reason I signed up for HD is for the chance to coach at UT-Arlington (my alma mater). It took me a while to get there in Knight, but now that I'm there I plan on staying indefinitely and taking them as far as I can. Another coach in the conference plans on doing the same with UT-San Antonio, and it's been a fun rivalry thus far. I've only made 1 NT in several seasons, but my first 3 or 4 seasons were just learning the lay of the land in D1 recruiting, and I'm hoping to win a roll or two this season to have a respectable mid-tier roster over the next few seasons.

As it stands right now, my UTA squad would be a highly competitive D2 team, which is enough to occasionally steal a game from a real team (I've won non-con games 2 seasons in a row against chapelhillne's Kansas squad!), but far from anything that would make a difference in the big dance.

Anyway, to get back on topic, my first team back was West Conn St University in the Little East. Picked because the conference was empty and I hoped to fill it with users from my HBD worlds. I've only had one period of sustained success and the team guard-oriented. I signed Gorgeous George Pritts in my first class in 92. I got Terrific Todd Snell, Hoopin' Harry Hudnall and Dannie "The Porn Star" Grindstaff in 93. Won 27(2nd round exit), 22(2nd round agan) and 26(Final Four). with them. The 4 of them are all over the scoring, assists and steals all-time leader board at WCSU.

Currently have 4 players from Iowa and am in the 2nd round(S100) of the tourney. I was calling the first two "The Iowa Boys" but, now that they have fellow statesmen in tow, I might call them "The Iowan Quartet". Richard Randall and Richard Todd looks like twins except RR is smiling. RR is also at 777 OVR as a junior so I think he's got a chance to be 800 OVR in D3. Thus far, no one in our conference has claimed to have had an 800 OVR. I only had 1 at D2 Lander.

Looks like that W Conn St team is gonna be good for a while. Playing in the NT with only 4 upperclassmen is a good sign, and if you hadn't stumbled down the stretch in conference play you would've probably had a much better seed.

As far as 800+ guys in D3, I've only had one:

Came in as a 507 freshman and ended up 839 at the end of his senior year. Never was really as dominant as I hoped but he was a solid 4 year player and a great defender. Depending on his remaining potentials, Randall could will probably make a similar level with that 89 WE.

Randall only has 5 yellows left. I don't think he'll hit 810.

I have been known to f up recruiting. I should be fine in the future but, if I screw up my next two classes, I'm back to 10 wins.

There was no real reason I chose them; I think it was because they already played my style (Flex/Zone), played in a mostly vacant conference (I wanted to ease my way into D1), and had a scorer I could rely on year 1 (George Flowers; 100 PER guy who finished his career as the top scorer in history). I took over a team that hadn’t had a human coach in 6 years and was coming off a 6-21 season. We somehow went 24-6 that first year and since then, we’ve won at least 21 games in every season but one. We had a great rivalry with St. Francis (PA) and coach BDsaint785, where we traded CT Championships. Literally no other team has won a CT in the past 11 years other than us. Sadly, it looks like he gave up HD two seasons ago. I used to recruit very timidly when I started; only looking for mid-ranked players with a lot of upside. After seeing MikeT sign top recruits as a D prestige showed me that I can get more aggressive. In the current recruiting session in Knight, I’ve already signed a top 100 recruit and it’s looking like I’ll have 2 more joining him when all is said and done. I have a Senior class right now that has 3 guys who are an 885 overall or higher, so I’m really having an internal debate on whether I should cash out and make the jump to a Big 6 team or ride it out and try to keep this team going. We’ll see…

Favorite past players:

Dwight Koch – Was a high potential player who came in as a 540 overall and like the #90 SF in his class, but finished his career as an 872 and the all-time scoring leader in school history.

Allen Bernard – Was an unranked PG coming out of HS, 517 overall. Not one other D1 team recruited him at all. Finished his career as a 793 overall (76 ATH, 96 SPD, 89 DEF, 100 PER, 97 BH) and as a Senior averaged 20.2 ppg and won Conference POY.

Freddie Almaraz – The best G recruit I’ve ever signed (sadly, the #26 SG), he was an honorable mention AA as a Junior and is on target to do at least the same this year. 23 games into his Senior year he ranks: 3^rd in minutes, 7^th in points, 7^th in FG’s, 16^th in 3FG’s, 16^th in 3FG%. 895 overall with 93 ATH, 100 DEF, and 100 PER.

Ronald Morgan – The #46 C coming out of HS and a 586 overall, he’s now my first ever 900+ overall player. Last year as a Junior, he won Conference DPOY, Conference POY, and was a 1^st Team All-American (my first ever). His all-time school ranks: 6^th in minutes, 2^nd in points, 4^th in rebounds, 2^nd in blocks, 2^nd in FG’s, 25^th in FG%, and 18^th in 3FG%. The fact that he isn’t even on the big board just shows how biased it is towards athleticism, speed, and defense. In real life, a 6’10 big man who averages 18 & 7 and shoots 50%/41%/71%, who was a Conference Defensive Player of the Year and a 1^st Team AA as a Junior (and will probably do the same as a Senior) would at least be one of the top 100 NBA prospects lol.

My only concern with my UTA squad is that our conference currently only has 3 human coaches. We need some more talent to join the Southland conference in Knight! There are actually a few decent teams available.

And I totally agree about having more coaches in conference. My most successful teams so far have been in full and competitive conferences.

Looks like you're putting together a strong run at Mount St. Marys. Hopefully you can build on that Sweet 16 and solid recruiting class to make a deep run. Idk about you, but I've had a blast building up a mid major team since I joined D1 in Phelan. A Big 6 school would be a different challenge, so I definitely wanna give that a shot eventually too.

I'm in two worlds, both D3. I'm in my 10th season with Manchester in Wooden. I picked Manchester because I liked the Indiana area and wanted a team which had some talent work with. I inherited a good roster with 6 sophomores and 6 seniors. My two challenges were building prestige and evening out my classes. I've been lucky with recruits, sporting an 800 and the D3 player of the year in recent seasons.

Fifth season with East Mennonite in Smith. I wanted to recruit and play in the VA/ Carolinas area. I inherited a mediocre team with mediocre talent. I decided to switch the offense and defense which netted mediocre results the first 3 seasons. Seasons 4 and 5 saw an uptick with a first team All American in my 5th season.
