Are we not going to talk about the school shooting in florida?
How do you stop a shooter?
Well, for one, you don't let him have a gun.
Sounds easy, right? How will you enforce that?
By imposing gun control that doesn't allow felons to have guns and making sure that people who purchase guns know how to use them? Both of these things would have prevented the shooting in Florida.

Look at Australia. Zero school shootings in 20 years. They passed gun control 20 years ago. Coincidence?
Pretty sure we have a law saying felons can't have guns. Yet a couple days ago here in Chicago and officer was shot and killed by a four-time felon. How did that happen?
Because after a felon is released he can get a gun.
So then, back to the same question.... how are you going to enforce that law?
By actually imposing that regulation?

It's like legalizing cocaine because even if it is illegal people will still use it.

I mean, yeah, people could, in theory, get one, but it is much more unlikely.
We ARE enforcing it... You think cops are just letting felons run around with illegal guns?

It's ineffective because felons acquire guns illegally without asking the police first.

Which goes back to my first question.... How do you stop a shooter? People with intent to kill will find a way to get a gun. How do you stop them when they shoot?
You call the police?
And how do the police stop a shooter?
By arresting or shooting him? It's their job.
FINALLY! You figured it out. Took you way too long imo. The way to stop a shooter is to SHOOT them. When you take away guns from the good guys you can't actually STOP the bad guys. Waiting for police just gets more kids in this case (and others) killed. We should be putting armed guards/teachers in our schools. We use armed guards to protect our buildings downtown, our banks, our armored cars.... we use armed guards to protect our president and other politicians.... we use armed guards to protect famous people.... Yet, our most valuable asset, our children, we leave them in a gun free zone to get picked off like fish in a barrel. Makes ZERO sense. We should be protecting our most valuable assets.

sure, something is better than nothing, but it won't resolve the problem. Probably not even make much of a dent in it.
So if we cannot get rid of literally every mass murder it is a failure? Be logical.
That's YOUR wall argument. #HILARIOUS
No, my wall argument is that the cost compared to the actual rate that it would stop the problems you stated is about 25% of the time. Gun control costs less and, you know, actually cuts the amount of mass shootings significantly.
Is it?

The 1994 Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act, which included the assault weapons and high capacity magazine ban (that expired in 2004), authorized the expenditure of $30.2 billion dollars, or about $45 billion in today’s dollars.

How did this $30.2 (or $45) billion dollar investment in gun control work out? The wall would cost LESS and actually STOP people from entering the country illegally.
The wall will stop around 25% of people. Over 50% come in through planes and 25% can come in other ways.
By other ways... are you referring to drones?

I really have nothing going against that. I remember at the high school that I went to we had guards and police. Anyway, what does that have to do with common sense gun control?

Convicted felons have the same 4th amendment rights you and I do. Felons on parole can be held to a lower standard, but if they aren't on parole they have the same rights.

yeah, not sure where he is going with that. no judge will issue a search warrant on anyone without cause.
Don't need a search warrant in some cases, at the discretion of the officer and probable cause, no warrant just limits the scope of the search to on the person/in the car(not sure about trunk) and in the room of a house the suspect is in.

Of course to be safe an officer should get a warrant, it wipes out almost all of the red tape.

Can also hold a suspect for a reasonable amount of time while a warrant is procured in some cases.

I love that term... COMMON SENSE GUN CONTROL. Makes people feel good to hear that. Notice how I said FEEL... that's because common sense gun control won't actually make people safer, just FEEL safer. Common sense gun control meant making places like Schools, Churches, Office Buildings, and Movie Theaters gun free... how's that working out? Sounds good though... THIS IS A GUN FREE ZONE!!! instead you get fish in a barrel. Whoops, didn't think that one through.

BTW - California (tough on guns) has had more mass shootings than any other state, with 23... and over 2/3rds of Mass Shootings in the US are committed with Hand Guns, not Assault Rifles.

New York City has some of the toughest measures and had a historic low number of shootings the last two years.

There certainly can be common sense gun laws. As for being successful we've never tried anything as a country. Sure some places have tougher gun laws than others, but neighboring states have lax gun laws and it's easy to get them over state lines.

It kills me that Republicans now are clamoring for a universal conceal carry permit that goes against state rights even though state rights has been one of the main reasons they've used for years not to enact tougher gun laws.

Ask a Nevada cop how ****** up everything would have been at the country concert if everyone in the crowd was carrying.

That is not what I am saying though. No one is arguing for 'gun free zones', or to take away all guns.

Australia. No mass shootings in 20 years.

Mental Illness is another good COMMON SENSE GUN CONTROL law... We need to STOP people with mental illness from getting guns!!! How do you define that? How do you get people on the 'mental illness' banned list?" You probably think I have a mental illness (and maybe I do) yet I can walk into a store and easily buy a gun. I have the cash, I work, I don't take any meds, and I've never seen a shrink.

That is a fair point. The definition of mental illness has changed and will continue changing. However, we have experts in that field and we need to let them do their job. Make a commission or something, I don't know.

I don't think you are mentally ill, I just think you are well-versed in the ways of, how you say, Bullsh*t. You certainly breathe and consume the toxic air of bullsh*t mountain.
