Train the teachers. I'm sure there's plenty of them that are gun owners who would feel much safer carrying a handgun to work, especially after all these mass shootings where everyone is defenseless
I'd have to ask, but I'd be willing to bet most of the people I know who are teachers would not want to carry guns at school. They have enough on their plates without that.
Plus, the still would have to train the teachers. There is no money for that.
very small sample size, but every teacher I've asked so far (and answered) has said they would not want to carry guns at school. Granted, I don't think any of the people I've asked are already gun owners, but I don't know that for sure.
Ask gun owners. People who don't own guns are too scared to even touch them. The three teachers that died in Florida this week probably would wish there was somebody in that school that could take this kid down.
ask gun owners if they'd be willing to carry guns??? Kind of a stupid question, isn't it? I'm asking the teachers I know. I can't control whether they have guns or not.
If you think that's a stupid question then you are missing my point. If there's a handful of teachers in the school that ALREADY know how to use and store a gun responsibly.... Allow them to conceal and carry. I'm not suggesting you force every teacher. Trust me, if there's an active shooter in their school those that own guns would prefer to have the gun on them and not in a safe back home.... and those that don't own guns will be grateful to have these people around.
If you want to ask the right question, ask your teacher friends this "if there's an active shooter in your school would you prefer to have a handful of responsible gun owners nearby or to be a sitting duck until the police arrive?"
That is a loaded question.
If a teacher had a gun it would be a false sense of security. Kids might be less likely to hide, run, etc. I want my kid to feel insecure during a school shooting.
Teachers with guns also mean more bullets. Most casualties are from hallways, etc. Right? So more bullets means more chance of kids being hit with bullets.
Hardly a loaded question at all.... And it's not just any teacher, it's those that are trained to use and store guns responsibly.
Its odd that you're worried about your child's FEELINGS during an active shooter situation. WOW!!
I'm worried about my kids getting out alive.
You said the alternative was to be a sitting duck.
And no, I want my child to be safe.
So in the Florida shooting, the kids who got out alive were doing what?
