Again, context dependent. VsR at least 75 with 2 good pitches. In one of my worlds that's a $6 mil SP. In the other, he's a $12 mil SP.

If a pitcher is a righthander with 60 splits, but can put in innings, has good control and velocity, and has excellent pitches, I definitely consider him. And if - IF - $6 million is too much, then by how much? $1.3 million? I can deal with that if it happens to lock down the back end of a championship quality rotation.
I think of where I could put a guy. For 6 million he has to be at least an SP3. And for that he needs VsR at least 75 with 2 good pitches.

That being said I build my teams defence first and I skimp on offence. But for me, a guy like this would be LrA or LrB. I can’t spend 6 million on that. I’d go broke!
I dunno. You get 'discounts' on pre-arb players or players with good contracts. So if the situation is right and the player can help you out, a minor overpayment to me is acceptable. No one is going to have all their contracts line up with current talent/performance.

In the end, if I have control over the player, and I can slot him somewhere and not worry about him, then I can stomach a slight overpayment. And for this guy in 2 of my worlds, $6 million isn't an overpayment. And I could probably flip him if it was anyway,

I think where people get lost is ‘would this guy make 6 million in free agency?’ - yes. Easily.

But it if you have control over him SHOULD you pay 6 million for him? Well, you could. But I have yet to see reason why I would at all.

IMO almost everything is based on what a guy could fetch in free agency. A lot of times other owners get upset with me when I ask for a lot back when trading a veteran star. But in almost all cases that veteran star is making a heck of a lot less than he would if he was in free agency.

That said I respect your opinion hockey.

What the hell would you base it on? If I get my say, every last one of my players makes 327k. I'd pay them less but the system won't let me.

I'd go with that!
