To be fair, the “value” of degrees now is highly inflated by the pricing scheme of universities. It’s a racket, corruption is inherent to its business model, and it is absolutely the FBI’s business. I personally hope it is the beginning of the end - for the whole NCAA.
College basketball/football needs the NCAA like a one-legged man needs a foot amputated. I fully expect the Power 5 in football to break from the NCAA in my lifetime.

I remember when LSU had a top 10 recruiting class with some very good players and I knew something was off.

No surprise to see Kentucky on this list. They need to ban Calipari from coaching.

Slippery slope. Dinner becomes a night out on the town. Night out on the town becomes an awesome crib. Awesome crib becomes a sports car. Sort of like a booster giving a kid a job that requires him to punch in, or be punched in, then go about his business.
Ah. The "Gateway" Steak Dinner
Once you establish willingness, then its just a matter of price

If I said the Atlantic Ocean was full of water, some, like benis, would disagree. Of course the benefits would escalate. Why wouldn't they?

Well. People have different lines they're willing to cross. Usually due to self justification of what is acceptable.

Just because I'm willing to steal a candy bar doesn't mean I'm willing to steal a car.

I agree there is a connection but I don't think its inevitable that taking a free dinner leads to taking a duffle bag full of cash.

Stealing is not the same as accepting an offer. Duh.

I'm willing to kill a bug. I'm not willing to kill a human. Well, only a few.

Well then isn't it inflated for everyone? And wouldn't that make it even MORE valuable to kids who otherwise couldn't afford it?

I'm willing to accept the offer of a stripper's boobies in my face but I'm not willing to accept an offer to motorboat some drunk woman at a bar.

More inflated for everyone, yes. I wouldn’t say the inflation makes it more valuable; I would say the inflation makes a denial of access more costly.

A university increases the value of a degree through things like more research opportunities, better and more experienced staff, etc. Raising tuition in and of itself is just increasing cost, not value.

This is rationalization; its still theft ...

How about this.

99.9% of women will allow the man to pay for dinner on a date. But most women would not accept a brand new car from the guy after a couple dates. Why? Because they would likely feel like this was too much and the guy would probably expect something in return. Or they don't want to feel obligated to reciprocate. Plain and simple - they don't feel comfortable doing it.

But they accepted the first amount of free sh*t, why not take more free shi*t, right?

Or speaking from personal experience.

My future mother in law wants to pay off my student loans for me. I refused. They're my loans and I'll pay them myself. But obviously I'll let her grab the check at dinner, not a big deal.

Hell, I'll let her even pay for the wedding!

I think, for me, it's all about what is normal/typical.

Guy paying for dinner on a date = normal
Guy buying the girl a new car after a date = not normal

In laws paying for a wedding = normal
In laws paying off student loans = not normal

Ask anyone who is in sales or has a working relationship with someone in sales.

Dinners/lunches are very typical and normal.
Handing someone a wad of cash or a check for $1,000 is not normal.

Most people can distinguish between the two but some can't or don't care.

Your standards of acceptable don't apply to everyone.

"I average a double/double and get a steak on Friday. Billy is shooting 36% and can't rebound for ****. He's driving around in a new car. WTF?"

I know. That's why I said this-

"People have different lines they're willing to cross. Usually due to self justification of what is acceptable."
