how do they figure Defensive Player of Year? Topic

any idea how they figure Conference Defensive Player of Year?

i mean, obviously steals and blocks and probably rebounds, but it kinda seems like guys with gaudy DE numbers get credit for thier D even when it doesnt show in those stats.
Ive wondered about it before, but had a D3 frosh win it
GP GS MIN FG% FG3% FT% OREB REB AST TO STL BLK PF PTS
33 4 16.8 .554 .565 1.6 4.1 0.9 1.0 1.0 0.5 1.2 3.6

17 minutes per game and only 4 starts and 2.5 def reb and 1.0 steals and 0.5 blocks
just seems weird and the guy who usually started in front of him was better rebounder and similar block steal numbers and played 23 min per game.
the frosh was roughly 83ath 55sp 88de B+IQ
and the junior was 80ath 46sp 75de A IQ

there were lots of other candidates too, that just seemed the easiest to compare.

one really stupid reason i want to figure this out is id like to get him 4 straight ConfDPoY, but cant really figure out how he did it in the first place.

Guard types can win it too, I don’t think there is a single formula. This guy won national DPOY, and was recruited as a guard. https://www.whatifsports.com/hd/PlayerHistory/Stats.aspx?pid=3711339

Yeah per possession or per minute

so... do you think they have those advanced stats all calculated... but then dont share that info with us?

seems like a fair amount of effort just to calculate Dpoy and then not use that info elsewhere or share it with us.
