He’d be very useful for a zone team. Put him at the 3 in a 2-3 and the 4 in a 3-2.

I think he doesn’t play on any of my d3 teans

Really?

I don't think he's awesome but I think he is definitely useful. Worst part is that 40 defense but he has other skills that help make up for it.

Maybe he is a backup3? I mean what can he do? He’s a + rebounder but that’s it. He’s an average at best scorer, has poor guard skills, and a - defensive player at all positions.

Not if you want a good defense.

50ish BH/Pass at PF is pretty damn good for D3, definitely not poor.

I think he will score decently and help others score around him.

In most defensive sets, but you can had minus defenders in the zone. Are 100 REB players commonplace in D3? Asking honestly; I've mostly played D2/D1.

Just my two cents, looks like a solid role player

One of the strengths of zone is being able to utilize elite skills, and worry less about deficiencies. You’re not hiding the defender, so much as utilizing his skill; that said, you will want to have him paired with an excellent defending low block counterpart.

Getting an elite rebounder who is somewhat athletic is not common at D3. In Tark, there are 23 D3 players with rebounding 98 and up. Only 11 have athleticism of 50+.

I would probably not actively recruit the player as a primary target, especially for M2M, but he’d be on my radar if I thought I could get him cheaply.

He is good. he plays for me and I put him at the 4 as a back-up or as a starter. 100 reb, 50 speed in press, 50 ath ( a bit low, I shoot for 60 at D2 min). Defense 40, the reason why I prefer him as a back-up, depth player.

I don't really count guard skills as a core for post players but yeah, 45/50 is really good for D3 posts, it's fine for the 3, but below average for the 1/2.

After thinking about it a little more, he might be a backup 4/5 for a D3 press team but he'll get eaten up in Man and will crush your zone defense. He's unplayable in the 2-3 at the 5 and is bad at the 3/4 in the 3-2 or 2-3. If you are going to "hide" a bad defender in the zone I think that player needs to bring more to the table than good rebounder and guard skills.

Say he has 60 def? Problem is his defense. That is why he is good in zone. Not bad in press..

Sure, 60 defense and he’s fine in any set at D3. But now you have to spend a lot more to get him, and there’s a risk of a D2 stealing him as a fallback option.

I’m not terribly worried about the 40 defense in zone, unless there’s nothing to cover it. If this is the best guy I end up with, I think I play him (when properly developed) at the 3/4 in a 2-3, at the 4 in a 3-2, and as long as I can cover him with a guy who is 60+ in athleticism and defense, I’m not very nervous. I take the elite rebounding and live with his wart.

The other part of this conversation is where those attributes start. If this is a recruit with a green 12, or even a blue 19 defense, I leave him alone, unless I have no other options.

BillyG used to say if you have a team of players who are good at 2 things (or roles) you have a solid team. This guy is only good at 1.

Is he awful? No. He would be a guy I would only sign if I needed a 4th big on the last day.
