School Baseline Prestige Topic

If I have a team like Boston College or Illinois, you want to downgrade my team’s HD baseline prestige based on what the team has done in real life over the past ten years? No thanks. This is a fantasy simulation with its own history, which people pay money to build themselves. Forced realignment or updates based on real life activities is unnecessary, and potentially aggravating.

So Kentucky and Vanderbilt with the same prestige..... yeah OK...... NOT
So Boston Freakin College, Wake Forest, and Georgia Tech are at A-minus... and Miami (Fla), West Virginia, and Florida State at B... yeah OK... it's asinine.

VCU has a worse prestige than South Florida.

98% of teams have ups and downs... i'm old enough to remember Duke sucking.

Balance each individual conference by giving each team the same prestige.
Most people will agree that the prestiges need to be adjusted. But doing it by conference is a horrible idea.
I actually think most people don't feel that way. I think most people don't really care.

I think they should take a 50 year or 75 year window when using prestige. UCLA, INDIANA, KENTUCKY, SYRACUSE, UNC should all be A+'s in my book.

Part of the deal, some win, some lose, it will work itself out.

Indiana is interesting.. obviously their run in 70s, 80s and very early 90s was elite but since then, it's been good but not great. They've gotten past the S16 ONCE since 1993. That also includes a 3 year stretch where they didn't even make the tourney.

Hard to put them with the other blue bloods.

And where is Duke and Kansas for A+?

Also, I know it probably pained you to say 'Cuse is an A+ but I'd probably put them at A.

If prestige has any meaning in the game, it should be based on what happens in the game, not what goes on in real life. You could make a case for updating baseline if they opened a new world, *for that new world only*.

The only way I’d support this kind of “update” is if the game was changed so that “baseline” prestige is turned off for teams with human owners, and is essentially just for sim-controlled teams reaching a stasis between human coaches.

I had to look it up... I forgot how bad Indiana was for those 3 years from 09 to 11.

6-25
10-21
12-20

Puke.

Duke, UConn, Arizona, Villanova, Michigan State, all A+.

Indiana and Syracuse are 7th and 8th in all time ncaa tournament wins.

I would favor having baseline prestige updated every season to reflect the last 30 seasons of play IRL. Just have to drop off the furthest back one and add the latest. Then plug that grade in as the new baseline in the equation. Do it at the start of each WIS season starting after June 1st.

They used the last 30 seasons at the time for prestige. Why not make it fluid always using the same 30 season criteria?

The reason for that being a bad idea is because if I take over a team, like an Illinois, and worked them up to an A or A+ and I get penalized by them being terrible in real life, I’d be very upset. Someone mentioned it earlier somewhere, but baseline prestige & conference alignment should 0NLY be updated if a new world is created.

During what decades have the Orange been a top 10 program? I'd say they were in the 80's finishing 5 times in the top 10.

Syracuse had 3 top ten seasons in the 1970's. 2 top tens in the 1990's. 0 top tens in the 2000's, with the 2003 title. 2 top tens during the 2010's.
That's 2 top ten teams the past 27 seasons.

Overall Top Ten seasons since 1970 & (championships)
31 - North Carolina (5)
29 - Duke (5)
28 - Kentucky (4)
23 - Kansas (2)
19 - UCLA (6)
15 - Arizona (1)
13 - Indiana (3)
12 - Louisville (3), Syracuse (1)
11 - UConn (4), Michigan State (2), Notre Dame (0), Ohio State (0)
10 - Georgetown (1), Marquette (1)

I'd say the current 5-year run Villanova is on beats any 5-year window Syracuse has ever had.
Sagarin had Syracuse #23 in his All-Time (since 1940) rankings that he did earlier this decade.

My point is that Syracuse is just kinda al she good. Maybe they don’t have the leak of some me other schools but over the last 50 years they are a top ten program.

8th in top ten seasons
8th in ncaa tournament will wins
8th in final four appearances

they ate are just kinda always there...... They are like Eddie Murray.
