Perimeter Preference Topic

I keep beating a dead horse on this with Seble but I'm not a college B-ball stats junkie.
Below is how the preference works. Seems to be (especially in HD) that a good rating should kick in around 34%.

Thoughts??
35.1% Perimeter Offense - Neutral

buddhamgamer has the stats on when it kicks in.

Personally, I think quibbling over if it should be 33 or 35 or 36 is silly.

We know exactly when it kicks it. The question is are the preference ranges off considering HD team averages.

I don't agree with using 3Pt FGA% as a measure of how a recruit would prefer to go to a particular school (would you really want to go to a school who jacks 50% of their shots from beyond the arc but only makes 20% of them).

Anyway, my collected data so far for Perimeter preferences are:

Very Good starts around 42.5% and above
Good around ~35.3%
Neutral at ~29%
Bad is somewhere between 23.1 and 23.69%

To calculate your percentage, take your Total 3PT FGA and divide by your Total FGA (as shown on your Team Stat info).

Second time...
I already know exactly WHEN it kicks in.

The question/issue is IF this is going to be a preference does anyone think it should kick in before 35%?

Why should the rate of 3s a large plurality of humans with a balanced offense jack up be considered higher than neutral? If % of 3s attempted is going to be the barometer, I think they have it about right. You could argue that some other play style preferences are too commonly “good” and ”very good”. There may be a more intelligent way to determine the preferences, but just lowering the current threshold isn’t it.

I answered your question and why the IF? It is a preference, no need to make it conditional.

I think that between 29 and 35 it isn't ZERO, 34% probably has a positive value (just small) and 30% has a neagtive value (also small). They talked about this in beta and I don't remember them taking it out.

I’m fairly sure this is true. My understanding is that the difference between 35 and 29 is much larger than the difference between 36 and 35. We know distance and success preferences work this way, there’s no reason to suspect the play style preferences are any different.

Yup its a sliding scale. Just like its better to be 100 miles away than 200 miles away for Near Home preference even though both are considered Very Good

I'm not sure how useful or relevant this is.. but I looked at all D1 teams from last season in real life and put them in a bell curve for 3pt attempt % and here's what it looks like.

Average was ~37%

No idea how you could easily do this for HD teams.
