Sophomore ineligible Topic

On my Tark Colorado team, I just had a sophomore turn ineligible in the final term. I had 0 practice SH minutes on him the whole season and he was fine up until this. His cumulative is a 2.7... wtf? This is a national championship team and I just lost my big man depth to this bs.

I know I’m going to hear “it’s your fault for not having minutes in SH” but I’ve been playing this game a long time and I’ve never seen this happen.

I'm not going to say "it's your fault for not having minutes in SH"

i'm going to say that snafu beat you to this one! This has the potential to be the same thread from Saturday.

Sophomores are less volatile than freshmen, but no SH minutes all season? Aren’t you kind of asking to get burned?

What do we think the concept of study hall minutes and GPA is for, if players never lose eligibility?

it is your fault

This isn't a parody thread?

Considering I’ve played over 100 seasons and never had a problem when the first semester and the midterm tell me I’m good, I find it odd. Considering his GPA went from 2.7 to 1.9 in half a semester I find it odd. He must have broken my rule on not smoking weed.

Has anyone else ever hadn’t guy go from eligible first semester and with no change in minutes allocated go ineligible second semester?

That's your fault for enforcing an immoral rule like not smoking weed.

Well yeah, lots of coaches have had players go ineligible. And it’s almost always a surprise. Even if you’re trying to flunk a kid out to avoid having to honor promises (I’m not suggesting this is a good strategy), he’s usually going to pass.

yup and it's because I put zero minutes in SH for sophomores...seriously.

Sounds about right. We might as well ask the programmers to get rid of SH if every time a player becomes ineligible a complaint is filed.

Think of SH like insurance. Players come with various risk levels for academic trouble. Most students will be fine without SH, especially after freshman season. But they all come with some level of risk, ranging from minuscule (for good students with decent work ethic) to moderate (for dumb, lazy freshmen). You can go without insurance, and you’ll be fine - until you’re not. If you don’t like that risk, choose the policy that’s right for you.

Yep-once had a kid as a soph that was 2.6 at midterms with 4 minutes of SH. I made no changes to minutes and at final grades suddenly became ineligible. It was weird.

I guess it’s not just me, I thought it was odd and of note that after over 100 seasons I just had my first guy go ineligible without warning. I still need to find out why this guy went from a 2.7 to 1.9 in half a semester. Maybe his “tutor” got tired of taking his tests for him and quit, I guess I will have to find a new nerd.

Considering the effects it has on health and academics I think it’s a justified rule for my student athletes. For people that aren’t expected to sprint up and down a court for an hour and absorb a bunch of new information it might be fine, but my guys need to be at their peak physical and mental state.
