I think we discussed earlier that it would cost trillions of dollars per year over the first 10 years. You can cover that by cutting a couple of things and raising taxes. It's possible. Would it be good for our country? Who knows. Many other countries pull it off.

We all pay huge amounts in heath insurance premiums already. Health insurance companies use those premiums to pay costs and extract profit. Remove the profit part and it ends up covering more people for less.

I think the cost of the latest proposal was $32 trillion to cover everyone for 10 years. The no-change to the system cost for the next 10 years (including premiums and out of pocket expenses) is $33 trillion.

Correct, I saw the same numbers, $3.3 Tr per year. We are only bringing in $3.18 Tr per year. So, universal health care would cost more by itself than what we bring.

Once again, please show me how it's affordable.

Like I said, it actually costs less than what we pay in premiums and out of pocket expenses currently.

So for example, you pay $1200 a month for your family’s health insurance. We switch to this proposal and you pay $1100 a month in additional taxes instead.

(It obviously wouldn’t go exactly like that, but that’s an average-ish example)

And when I say “we” I mean consumer cost, not federal outlays.

I don't think the math works, but I also don't plan on researching it either. I would assume that we have fewer people buying insurance than we do paying taxes, so essentially it would be a tax increase for most Americans.

It works. We cover more people for less because we aren’t sending a huge chunk to shareholders. But there are obvious issues with that plan and the taxes would be applied progressively, so yeah, higher earners would end up paying way more.
