I could see a scenario where Israel goes without US approval. The situation would need to be desperate and the US would need to be intransigent but it is possible.

I don't think of things as good guy vs bad guy. Israel is our ally, Iran is not. Let's say you are the President. Netenyahu has a meeting with you and says that he wants to go to war with Iran, but wants your support. Would you do it?
