If Jews and blacks, on average, received longer prison sentences than whites for the same crimes, that would be an example.

There isn't a conspiracy among all judges to sentence them to longer terms, but there is a subliminal bias in enough judges that they view Jews and blacks as more criminal or more dangerous and thus deserving of longer sentences. The judges probably don't actually realize they are giving out longer sentences to Jews and blacks.

To me racism is overt. Bias is not. I would be police officers let attractive women off more than ugly women for example. I would bet that teachers may treat nice kids better and grade them more favorably than pesky annoying kids. As you said they be do that not even knowing they are doing that. I think our world is full of bias but to me racism is something overt. Maybe I am just ignorant and that is fine.

They are similar but not the same. There is no "discrimination or antagonism" in bias. Again you may disagree but in my opinion they are not the same and I would agree we have all kids of biases in institutions but not racism.

My neighborhood is 100% white and our neighbors median age is 75? My kids always have friends over so there are like 6-7 white girls running around at one time. If for some reason they saw 6-7 African American boys there they would likely call the cops. Is it racism? IDK. It is just that it is something unusual. If there were black families living there then no one would call. I think people sometimes call because they see something unusual. Especially old people. Not sure it makes them racist but maybe it does. IDK.

well, it depends..what are the 6 - 7 African American boys doing? Are they having a barbecue in a park? Than yes, I think calling the cops is a racist thing to do. Are they waving guns around or harassing people? Than no, calling the cops is probably the smart thing to do. If they are not doing anything remotely threatening, than someone is calling cops solely because they are black. That is racist, or at the very least, prejudice.

seriously though, if they would call the cops on 6 - 7 white boys doing the same thing, its not racist, just a bunch of old fogeys being old fogeys. Agreed! So I think when we read these articles we need to take into account who the complainers are. Also if the youths are African American and being rambunctious then they should be able to call the cops on them without being labeled as "racists".
