Are you for Gay marriage?

I hear you got a rainbow church out there.
In a perfect world gay marriage wouldn't exist. That said, I don't hate gay people. I am friends with multiple gay people. If someone I was friends with had a gay wedding, I would attend.

Bernie said that it was "unfair" that the 1% hold 90% of the wealth. Please tell me what is so "unfair" about it? They earned it. They didn't steal it from the other 99%? What we have now is fine but Sanders wants to tax them even more. And bad luck, STFU. You and your 99% tax is insanity. This is an A (me) to B(tang) conversation. C yourself out.

Loser.
Because poverty is generational and some of the rich inherit some money. In an equal world, no one would benefit or suffer from their parents endeavors.

Also, not every rich person earned their money and not every poor person is terrible with money.
Just wondering the thought process here.

Do you believe that if you work your *** off and manage to accumulate some wealth that you shouldn't be able to help your children by giving them a leg up with the wealth you've accumulated?

The fact is the majority (not all) of the poor are indeed poor because of poor decision making. That's why if you look at the numbers, most folks who win at least 1M in the lottery are worse off financially now then they were before they won.

If you stripped everyone of their personal assets and evenly distributed it to everyone, in a only a few generations (maybe less) we would have the same results as we have now. The shrewd folks will start accumulating more and those who continue to mismanage their assets will be in poverty.

Do you believe that if you work your *** off and manage to accumulate some wealth that you shouldn't be able to help your children by giving them a leg up with the wealth you've accumulated?

I never said that.

The fact is the majority (not all) of the poor are indeed poor because of poor decision making. That's why if you look at the numbers, most folks who win at least 1M in the lottery are worse off financially now then they were before they won.

This is a half truth. Yes, some are poor due to bad decision making. Again generational poverty is a thing. If your parents are poor, it is likely that you will be poor as well. There are many reasons for this. The lottery example is a bit misleading as there are tons of very obvious factors that go into that phenomenon. Rich people don't get a million dollars one day after having nothing the previous day. It is slow for rich people, giving them time to adapt. Also, family and friends want to mooch off of your newfound money, most of whom are likely to be poor. My dad says that poor people are in 'survival mode'. How can I make it through the day? To break into the middle class, you need to get out of survival mode and plan for the future. That's hard to do when you can't feed your kids. Hard. Not impossible.

If you stripped everyone of their personal assets and evenly distributed it to everyone, in a only a few generations (maybe less) we would have the same results as we have now. The shrewd folks will start accumulating more and those who continue to mismanage their assets will be in poverty.

1. I don't believe in income redistribution. I am not a socialist. 2. We currently do not have equal opportunity in this country. If we did, the people who were poor would all be those who made bad decisions. However, we don't. This is a fact.

You DID say this: "In an equal world, no one would benefit or suffer from their parents endeavors".
So I am a bit confused, I guess. Are you speaking in a strictly "utopian" sense?

I didn't mean to imply (and I don't think I did) that you believed in socialism or income redistribution.

I was simply making a point that if you WERE to do such a thing to make everyone "equal", that equality would disappear very very quickly.

If that is true, then what would be the solution? You can't at the same time have a free society AND an equal one.

Two points:

1) the idea that everyone basically gets what they deserve because we live in a meritocracy is a naive misunderstanding of how the world works.

2) no one is arguing for complete redistribution.

I seen. It seems over 100 posts by you. That's not true but it seems that way. About your religion. Not one quote. Not one from the Bible.

I'm not a Mennonite. You are. Your dad is a Mennonite preacher. You go to a Mennonite church. You vote for and support abortion.

I think you are not a member of the MCC. I saw a Brethren Mennonite church there. There is no such thing except as you make it up. You people ran away a long time ago. I think you're wack That's just me.

NOW that's just the way it is and I'm fine with you forgiving me as I forgive you. I reject your apostasy and won't tolerate it.

You stay in your little church. Our Constitution says you have that freedom. My ancestors and I have fought for you since the Revolution. You didn't pick up a rifle at Brandywine or Little Round Top and you never will. BUT you better damn well sit up and pay attention the next time you see a Bible quote from me. And I'll be shoving them down your throat every chance I get.

Forgive me. You must.

That doesn't mean I support it. I don't know. Am I allowed to not have an opinion? Do you disagree with my statement? If you do then that is OK.

Being a Christian doesn't mean I have to jam quotes down your throat all the time. And Mennonites, particularly my church, aren't a group that needs to memorize the Bible or anything. I have a couple of passages memorized and can cite certain things but I wouldn't hold my own in a Bible conversation. Who cares?

Your dad is a Mennonite preacher. You go to a Mennonite church. You vote for and support abortion.

He used to be, now he works with poor people. Around 6 years ago the Church he was working for closed and he went into a different occupation. I don't support abortion.

I think you are not a member of the MCC.

You can choose to believe that. I know I am. I go to the MCC sale every year, when I was younger I went to the youth conventions, now I try to make it to the big conventions.

BUT you better damn well sit up and pay attention the next time you see a Bible quote from me. And I'll be shoving them down your throat every chance I get.

There is a very good chance it is going right over my head. It probably already has. Also, I don't read half the posts you make, especially the ones that are made in long chunks.
