Round 1 255M Roster Analysis, 2018 Topic

I couldn't figure out which player of mine only had one other season, until I figured out that for some reason Dave Dellucci is known as both Dave and David for different seasons, but all the links go to the same player. So he actually has 10 seasons to pick from.
Interesting. I wonder why that is? Maybe just a glitch?

A long time ago, I once went through the then-current WIS player database and compared to a different source I had. My goal was to get everything in sync, which would allow me to use my secondary source (which had more detail) for roster construction and analysis. But there were so many inconsistencies like this, it made it impossible to link everything up. I'm sure I contacted admin about it but I'm also quite sure nothing was ever done.

scottharra's roster is incredible in how unique it is. He also used the least salary by a significant margin

That's a lot of 70s and 80s players. Feels like a roster of players he watched growing up.

Yeah, I tried to do that to get caught stealing information (among other things) into the spreadsheet. It wasn't worth the hassle.

Considering he left $65M on the table, that record is actually not all that bad.

I know this wouldn't be a valid season soup twist roster, but that's what I thought of when I first saw this, because of the narrow year range. Or maybe being a commissioner of one of those leagues just hasn't worn off yet.

Simple explanation, I based this team off the $110 million team as I was running out of time and was heading out of country. The year I used for the $110 million team was 1979. Since I was extremely familiar with this team, I knew I could put together a second round team with this group. In hindsight, I left way too much on the table salary-wise and should have done a much better job. Sometimes, circumstances cause us to do things in haste that we later regret. At least in this case, it's just a game.

The 1979 for the $110 million season was selected using random.org as I really wasn't sure where I wanted to start. When it popped up, I thought, "Hey, an era I am familiar with. Let's go with it."

This is why I don't post team building strategies...

Why did you select a year for that theme? You were able to choose anyone you wanted.

I'm pretty sure he's talking about the Round 1 $110M theme with the year you use as a base, not the second round $110M with this roster. Sounds like he'd already been researching that era and had a group of players in mind that he liked and just shifted them over to the $255M team knowing he had a workable $110M option already in place.

Yes, that is correct.

midway notes:

This is another team I really believe in now that i've seen them play for half a season. It's also another team that was struggling badly until I made a lineup change. I moved Richie Ashburn from the 8 spot to the leadoff spot and he's hit well over .300 since, raising his average from under .150 where it was when I moved him into the leadoff spot to .277. Jennings was the only player who declined from the lineup change. He was hitting over .300 in the leadoff spot but has dropped below .250 since. Everyone else shifted down a spot and immediately saw their offensive numbers turn around. Richie's move to the leadoff spot took this team from sub-.500 and bolted them into first place for a time. They're sitting in second currently but they're right in it. the pitching has been pretty good as well. I held Pedro and Maddux back in a 3A and 3B role for 62 games and planned to let them loose in a straight 4 man rotation for the final 100 games. I'm hoping that will help us string together some more wins as they've both pitched extremely well. Hoping that will help this team continue to rise.
