That's why they are consistent winners! I can only speak for myself, but I feel determined to find that magical gem out there for a clone team and earn some street cred. Likely chasing rainbows but maybe, just maybe, someday...

One of the things I often considered doing while I was running this tournament was to offer bonus points (i.e, 5 points) if you can win 100 games with a completely unique choice (for certain round 1 themes only). This might get people to consider not taking the "obvious" choice. This would have been a good theme for this.

The only problem with that is you don't know they're unique until after the league starts. Obviously winning 100 games is great in itself, but if one other team thinks like you did, you lose your bonus.

Exactly. I don't see that as a problem.

What are the Maddux W-L records by owner? Is one poor Maddux team skewing the results? 6 of the top 7 teams selecting Maddux cannot be a coincidence. I have to believe most of these teams will finish closer to 90 wins.

No outliers on the negative side. Interestingly, this has been the worst or second worst team for all of the top 10 owners who selected Maddux except for me, so far.

One of the reasons I chose Hank Aaron is the number of positions he played in his career. His 1955 season at 2B is particularly good defensively. I had him in a progressive league and in the season he had over 20 +plays that season. He has 7 so far this season at 2B. His 3B season is not very good defensively and neither is his old man 1B, but he is solid in the outfield. So that allowed me to use him in six fielding positions.

I love that I'm not the only one who picked Carlos Beltran for my clones. Unfortunately my Beltrans are .500 and Juice's Beltrans are worse than that. Poor Carlos deserves better.

Beltran '08, who is rated A/A+ at OF and unrated at 1B, has 10 + plays in 46 games playing 1B

The biggest problem for Beltran '08, along with all the other Beltrans really, is that they are not hitting AT ALL.

Actually, my Beltran's are my best team. They're currently 30-18...(uh-oh, here comes the jinx).

After an 8-20 start, my 100M Pete Richert squad has bounced back and got themselves to .500 at 29-29 . . . . now I'm just hoping the latter run is more indicative of the team than their opening run.

That team is quite the thorn in my side at the moment. You can lose any time now :P

For whatever reason, I've never had luck with any Greg Maddux in any format, including last year's tourney. Maybe I just don't know how to use him properly.

midway notes:

This team just stopped hitting. When the season started they were red-hot and were clubbing the ball as a team. They're in a hitters park (AFC), so it's really baffling how they all just slumped together like this. Perhaps I've too many RH bats? Thing is I've seen them hit and know that they have it in them. If they catch fire they might have a run in them. They're my only sub .500 team but sitting at 40-44 they're still in it. Though if I had it to do over again I would not use Smoltz either. I mostly chose him because I loved this lineup and how well they play D but given how poorly they're hitting I would choose another player to clone. Though I will likely feel different if they get hot.
